I quite like Carroll but it is funny Liverpool's strategy in the transfer market; Player X has one great season and then the following Summer Liverpool want to buy them :D

That may be a little harsh on Dempsey but I doubt too many would argue last season was his best to date and it just seems to follow the trend that also lead to other great Liverpool signings such as Bellamy (the first time), Keane, Carroll (although for him it was half a season), Downing & Adam(s)

Shame because I like Dempsey but I'm going to call it now, he'll flop next season if he does go to Liverpool :(

Bellamy, Keane nor Downing had notable better seasons the season before they joined us than they had previously in their career. So your entire theory is based around Carroll and Adam.

Both Keane and Bellamy had just had (and what is still) their best goal scoring seasons and Downing had just won the Villa's Player of the Season so no my theory isn't just based on Carroll and Adam at all (in Bellamy's case I specifically remember how good he was for Blackburn under Hughes having fallen out with Souness at Newcastle and half a season in Scotland)

Keane wasn't notable better in his last season than in several previous seasons, neither was Bellamy and Downing had better seasons at Boro. Your 1 great season theory in regards to those 3 is nonsense; all 3 had/have been fairly consistent performers throughout their careers.

It's hardly nonsense especially in 2 of their cases it was their best (and again still) goal scoring seasons to date, Bellamy especially has never even come close to scoring 17 goals in a season since.

Regardless of stats though like I said I remember how good Bellamy was at Blackburn, I remember how good Keane was up front with Berbatov the year before he left for Liverpool and while I cant remember as much about Downing's career what I do know is he went extremely stagnate at Boro after all the initial hype around him died down (and being named Villa's POTY over the likes of Young says he did something right that season)

But hey what do I care if Liverpool keep buying players on the basis of 1 season if that's what's keeping them where they are, wonder if you'll be showing interest in Dyer, Graham and Holt soon as well? ;)

I think the label on Keane being consistently inconsistent would be correct ;)

Can anyone shed any light what keeps going wrong at Popmey. Hearing they have 12 players signed on and only 8 of them are considered first team players. They might not make it to the opening fixture without completely folding ?? How do clubs like this keep getting in such a mess and how do the owners get past the fit to manage thing with the FA

yeh. let's not forget they're footballers, not doctors.

ridiculous the power they have. spoilt brat.

and as footballers they have a career ~1/3 of the length of majority of people as well

They have to do whats best for them for the few years (given the years it usually takes to get to the top, and the few where most careers tail off) they get at the very top

Keane scored 1 less goal in 10 less games the season prior to "his best season" and what Bellamy claims to be his best season came at City, where he scored less goals than what you're claiming was "his best season", so using their goal return as conclusive proof is questionable to say the least.

None of the 3 players suddenly produced a season notably better than anything they'd showed before. You could argue that at the time Bellamy had his best season but it wasn't massively better than anything he showed before and I don't think you could even argue that was either Keane or Downing's best seasons at all.

Like I said ignoring stats I remember (or it's my opinion) that's Bellamy's best season (at least up to that point) was that year he had at Blackburn the season before he signed for Liverpool. Likewise Keane's final season at Spurs stands out to me; I remember him scoring twice against Liverpool at Anfield, scoring a great goal against Chelsea in the 4-4 and generally have a great season up front with Berbatov, Downing I remember less about as to me he's always been ****.

If you disagree then fair enough, I'll bow to your greater knowledge as I assume the way you're talking you must have extensively followed them presumably knowing that they would be targets for Liverpool? ;)

Downing was always talked up. He was apparently the left sided player we'd always needed for England.

That means the opposite....he has probably signed on the dotted line and Moura is on a plane to the Carrington for a medical as we speak....

:p

It could do, you never know with these things. As he's in the UK with the Olympic team anyway he probably doesn't need a plane! :p

At the moment though I'd take his [president] word over that of the Mirror, if indeed he did say that, a Brazilian radio station reported it.
