Hi all
I've just got my hands on a WD10EZRX (1TB Green) and have to admit I'm a bit underwhelmed. Now, I know it's a green drive, but I was under the impression that this means 5900 - 7200 rpm (depending on workload) and that the 1tb platters would be a fair performance boost over my old Samsung F3s.
I've done some benchmarking and real world testing.
As you can see, average read performance is actually higher on the Samsung (despite it only having 1/2 the platter density) and access times are higher on the WD.
The real shocker was Lightroom - it takes 4 -5 seconds for thumbnails to load in the filmstrip, compared to it happening more or less instantly with the Samsung. Just to be fair, I tried flicking though the filmstrip for a number of albums, with no noticeable difference.
Is intellipower crippling the WD and if so, any suggestions for a replacement?
