Vertex II or Crucial M4 for OS drive?

Good evening all :)

I have just bought an Asus sabretooth mo-bo based system. With it i bought a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, however I have robbed a Vertex II 128Gb SSD from my old rig. I was going to use the Vertex as a boot drive and keep my new crucial m4 256Gb for games etc. The crucial on paper is twice as fast as the Vertex, would this be noticeable in real terms? I am unsure of the board limitations in terms of read and write speeds and i couldn't find them in my manual (i was forced to read it :-P )

I did read the sticky in this folder for info but it is a bit dated :(

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thank you

Depends on what you prefer, faster games loading or faster OS loading and programs. I think probably the M4 as a games drive will make a more significant difference to the speed of loading rather than as an OS drive versus the Vertex II.

Well if anything, you'd want to use the faster drive as the boot drive, no idea why you wouldn't to be honest...

If game loading speed is your main issue then yes the M4 will outperform the Vertex II for that reason, but you could still put the most important/ used games to you on the M4 along with your OS.

I had a Vertex 2 and replaced it with an M4 - in day to usage I can't say I really noticed any difference.
Given the choice though, I'd use the M4 as the OS drive and the Vertex 2 as the games one.

I can see the quandary even though the m4 is faster, I have a 128gb one myself , the vertex is smaller so logic would be to have that as os drive.
