*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Ordered from Tesco with collect at store for tomorrow. £189 with £10 off voucher code. :)

I thought why not risk it, if it's faulty, I get a refund or a replacement. No loss. :)

I think we have enough material here to make a tv series.

I've realised a major issue with having the Nexus 7... my OSF is so slow in comparison I want to throw it against the wall! I was happily ignorant before.

Just wanted to share these experiences too...

It is possible to get past the startup wizard without an 'active' wifi connection. I turned my phone into a hotspot but had data turned off. I also tested a laptop used as an ad hoc hotspot, without internet connection sharing (ICS). This got me past the first stage. When it asks if you have a Google account, select no... it then asks if you want to setup one up... select later... then follow through to home screen. I could then launch Chrome, access the guest network at work (browser access form needed), and then connect to Google and setup my account.

Doing it this way also setup the Nexus like it was in the US, however, I don't know if it is because my work network appears (to a certain extent) to be in the US, or it is the default in the absence of an internet connection during the setup wizard. Either way, I have the free music and magazines, Google Wallet and Google Ears. However, I can't buy anything due to no US credit card.

However, after returning home I had all the US apps for that evening, but at some point overnight the Nexus decided it wasn't in the US and the US apps simply disappeared. I have tested this twice with the same result. Taking the Nexus back to work for the day did not return the US apps, but I don't know if it needs to be in a new region for longer (>10 hours) before it reverts to the default for that region. I makes me wonder if US owners going on holiday lose access to the US-only apps?

While I'm on a roll, more to share! I got the LuvTab case in black 'leather'... excellent fit, quality, and smart cover works. Definitely recommended.

Bought Splashtop HD - easy to setup and use, excellent quality. I've been using this to run Sky Go from my desktop.

I'm tempted to root so that I can use USB OTG, and possible a custom ROM to get US-only apps back, but I'm holding out hope that Sky might bring Sky Go to the N7... I'd be more upset if I couldn't use Sky Go because I rooted to get access to Play Magazines!

Ahh bless...

She loves it, thinks JB is great and is happily watching a movie now.

It is a strange experience buying new tech for someone else, all i want to do is snatch it out of her hand and have a play, see what is what, especially having not seen JB in the flesh, but I have to remind myself that it is her present

Oh well, roll on autumn and the next nexus phone :D

Has anyone got the Citrix Receiver working on this yet? It installs fine but I can't actually got logged onto my account, I'm guessing it's probably how work have it set but there are so many negative reviews of the app.

I've got my Tesco one (god bless club card points) Is it OK to post positive things about it yet? Don't have any build quality issues yet :(

It's a bit heavier and slower than I was expecting and the plastic back feels dirt cheap (damn you One S, the next batch of Krait/A15 tablets are going to fly!!) That's all really... the rest seems brilliant!

Well despite 4 phonecalls and 3 emails requesting a cancellation, it shipped yesterday. Another phonecall to Google and allt hey could suggest was that I refuse delivery.

Cue this morning, Mrs was out when they tried to deliver - result? Oh no, any other time it would be taken back to depot, but they leave it with a neighbour :S

So now the decision, go on hold for 60mins to Google and ask what I should do about returning for a refund, or try and sell it on? Any suggestions? Really don't want to take a loss because of Google's idocy!!

I've read somewhere (think it was a email reply google sent someone) you can still refuse a delivery upto 5 days after the parcel has been delivered as long as you don't open it. You have to ring TNT and get them to pick it up.
