Gaming PC - £800 - BF3

Ashamed to say have cheated and am having it supplied constructed (no way with current schedule I could give construction care and attention it would need). Happy with all though.

Planning a 2nd PC a for colleague next month, and I will build that one

I'd be very wary when it comes to doing builds for other people, especially if you don't have any recent experience under your belt. Reasons being:

1) If you bugger anything up, you are liable
2) If it takes longer than expected, maybe even some sort of issue outside your control (faulty component), it is still you that gets it in the neck for the delay
3) If they aren't happy with anything, or a fault develops, you will be expected to sort it out
4) If you bugger anything up, you are liable!

The good thing about building your own systems is you have the luxury of being able to take your time and be answerable only to yourself.

I think you'll find you ordered this one. It has the rear exhaust 120mm fan as OCuk said you would get.

In your post above you listed

So you have lead me to believe you have this case ordered. It's windowed and comes with no fans if you check the spec.....easy to confuse the different editions

I see you point, sorry to make this boring.

Have deffinately ordered Bhttp://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-048-BX

and NOT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-019-BX&groupid=2362&catid=1850&subcat=

Can see how I have confused things....

To offer an update, machine arrived yesterday - spent what seemed for ever installing windows and all drivers.

Really impressed with build quality (I went for pre-build for various reasons, and O/C helped me out to get there Next PC I buy shortly I will take the plunge and build).

Some teathing issues with Asus Xonar 5.1 card - that is device manager see's it, but drivers install but card does not provide sound. Have seen a few posts suggesting there have been similar issues, and have found some other drivers that I will give a go.
Mobo sound for now, which is fine.

Just as a note for people like me, that is that were worrying about hassle in installing drivers / software, it was very straighforward.

Should it help anyone else, I watched this before machine arrived - and as reported elsewhere it was really helpful.

I downloaded all drivers etc via another pc and put onto a memory stick, made life so much easier. Being prepared took stress away.

Did manage to get a few mins in the early hours to test performance, and it eat up BF3 1920 x 1200 in Ultra. Got consistent 60fps+. Which is great having moved from a laptop !.

Thanks all to this forum, the feedback has been excellent - and much love to all those that took their precious time to reply and offer genuine advice.

Have some more fans arriving soon , which I shall fit and for what its worth will report back to confirm how all is working.

Thanks again - and will try to contribute in future to help others like me...

About the sound card, have you enabled it to default in control panel/sound device?
You might also need to disable the on-board sound in the bios, I know I had to with there asus xonar ds card to stop conflict happening.
Also not sure if you seen my message on origin, did you select hard drive controller ahci mode? and not ide mode? ahci gives a faster and better hard driver performance.
If not dont change now its to late.

I did try disabling on-board sound via device manager, no change.
In fact I had not installed mobo audio drivers until after my attempts with Xonas. Also no conflicts are showing up, have seen a few links to alternative drivers and reports of re-installs needed. So will try again.

Did not see message ref AHCI, which is a real bugger, I know most say when O/S has been installed the HDD cannot then be changed from IDE to AHCI - although MS have issued a fix. Here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

Not sure if it will work, if not do you think a re-install is worth the benefits of AHCI ?

tks

Ok, not sure I can be asked with the grief of re-installing again now.

I think I will mull it over, and check the MS link to do it without a clean install.

Enable the driver like they tell you in the link you posted. You can then reboot and change the setting in the BIOS. If it doesn't boot you can switch the sata mode back to IDE no harm done. Kudos for doing your own homework btw :D

Should it not boot after changing - will I still be abke to get into BIOS?, pressume entry prompt will come before crash?

You can always enter bios, with no windows installed. When you first switch on your PC you need to press Delete key or F1 key fast. Key could be different but its normal them two.
