How should the NHS deal with the obesity epidemic? Lost battle?

So you were intentionally trolling then by posting stuff to get a rise out of people? Wasn't someone suspended the other day for that?

I think he was just trying to have abit of a laugh. Welcome to GD, don't take it too seriously.

.. Ask them?

Why would I know why perfectly functional people would rather spend hours in front of the TV/Computer eating **** than going out to exercise 3 times a week.

Ask them? Fantastic. Years and years of psychological studies by qualified people can be ignored, we can save money on stopping any new ones.

Just ask them. Job done.

I'm a firm believer that raising a child to be obese is also some form of neglect and or unfit parenting. Name and shame and all that jazz...

spot on.

All this 'my kid's got a medical condition' ...maybe in about 5-10% of cases.

most obese kids are brought up eating rubbish. Forced bad eating habits...It's irresponsible parenting, indirect cruelty, the parents responsible should be locked up.

Seen a kid in a pushchair recently, must have been about 2 or 3 yrs old. Jumbo sausage roll in one hand choc bar in other, can of coke in Mum's hand at the ready. Lordy lord, the kids got nee chance.

Obesity is self inflicted. As such you should be made to pay for your own health care. Same with smoking, drug and drink related hospital treatments.

Many conditions are self inflicted, people drive themselves and then end up in car crashes, people play sports and then have injuries. It is hard to draw the line, perhaps someone's family was killed, they lost their job, their family pet was hit by Adar and due to severe depression became an alcoholic - is it not fair that society pays to treat his condition?

One thing I would like to see is a very large fat tax on unhealthy fast food, put a 30% tax on McDonald's and not only will there be a small but measurable decline in whales but at least there will be impressed revenue to support the NhS.

Sports injuries that are self inflicted, yes. It's the individuals fault they injured themselves. Having your ankle broken by someone else performing a two footed tackle, no. RSI? Yes. It's the individuals fault they injured themselves by not taking care of themselves to alleviate the problem. Same with hernias.

People who're obese because they can't stop filling themselves with food should not be treated on the NHS. Nor should any of them be treated on the NHS for diseases and illnesses that occur because of their eating.

Eaters can't go cold turkey? They can put the pie down and stop ****ing eating.

Please tell me you are 12... I hope you are never unfortunate enough to get addicted to something. However, in the event that you do, I expect that you will not be seeking treatment for said addiction and the resulting medical problems?

I smoke. The tax I pay on tobacco more than covers my NHS care. Even though I'm with BUPA.
