As per title, how have your gaming habits changed over the years? Do you game more or less? New or second hand? What genres now compared to then?

I'd say I play more "serious games" now and value story above all else. I actually have more money now so see a wider variety of games but play them less. Back in the day the idea of a 100 hour game would excite me... Now it's a bit more of a "can't be arsed" attitude with games that take forever to complete. I also have moved from console gaming (Megadrive, N64 & Playstation 1) to pc gaming, back to console gaming (360). Oh and I have never steped foot in an arcade for years and years and years. Infact not since both consoles took over in producing better graphics and arcade prices went sky high (I still shudder at putting in pound coins at a time!).

Something's have stayed the same however throughout the years. I am a 99% single player gamer and have rarely played multi player games with the only exception been the odd split-screen game. I have always gamed on an evening or with the curtains drawn... It just feels wrong to game in a brightly lit room!

Edit; Oh and you'll never catch me playing a Football game... ever, fact!! :p

I don't have time for morons any more and only play with a select group of players.

I still play competitive games like StarCraft II and fighting games almost exclusively at home, but lots of travel with work means I play a lot more portable single player games than I ever used to.

I've noticed over the last few years that in games like Fallout 3, Skyrim etc, I spend absolutely ages just hoarding loot. I mean making sure I collect near enough every damn object there is and storing it either on the basis that I will sell it if it is standard loot, or it may be useful in the end of the game. Of course by the time I get to the end of the game I have no money worries anyway and that 1000+ chest of potions I've saved up probably is not going to be that useful anyway. I think I have OCD when it comes to games these days.

Play games a lot less these days then I used to, think I burnt myself out a wee bit. I'm with Kreeeee regarding online play, I tend to only play with people I know or people that I find from a forum etc, just makes the experience that much more pleasant. Play mostly RPG games these days whereas I used to play a lot of shooters!

I don't tend to play much multiplayer anymore tbh. I prefer relaxing and playing single player games. I find for the most part that i think of gaming along the same lines as sitting down to read a book or watch a film. It's an activity that i like to be absorbed in without being disturbed.

I'll still play the odd multiplayer or co-op game when the opportunity comes up but it's not a daily thing.

I can't say I'm that bothered about picking games up at launch either now. I'll gladly wait a few months for the price to go down whereas a few years ago if i wanted a game i'd buy it at launch. I've found myself looking back at older releases rather than whats current and in the charts. I've picked up a few PS2 titles recently that i enjoyed just as much as most modern titles.

Also with RPG's i'd tend to do all of the extra content but i find I just don't have the time anymore. Unless it's something thats really important to the main story i'll just breeze through the main plot to the end of the game. There are so many games to get through nowadays that there just isn't enough time to do it all i find.

I used to be an awful achievement hunter (there's another word to use but wasn't sure if I'd be allowed it ;)) just a year or 2 ago, but I've gradually started to play games to enjoy them more.

For example I played through the utterly, disgracefully poor excuse for a game that was the Prison Break game to the 360, and I knew it was awful, yet I plowed through it for achievements, and then went through almost the entire game again on the hardest setting, just for one more achievement (I gave up after a while, I literally asked myself the very serious question of 'Why the hell are you playing this still?!).

I also (up until about 6-8 months ago) would buy every game I wanted at launch, despite not playing through them right away. I still have around 10 games in their wrapping still on my shelf untouched. So I've tried to get away from that sort of thing too :p.

One thing that hasn't changed though, is I'm still a hardcore gamer :D

I find myself buying and playing fewer new releases these days, but it's not really to do with my gaming habits, it's more to do with there being fewer original and quality titles being released these days.

Most of the games I've bought or considered buying over the past couple of years all have the number 2, 3 or 4 on the end. I'm just sick to death of the publishers churning out the same **** every year and them not releasing anything new.

I've been playing a lot more over the last year or two then i used to, currently jumping around various multiplayer games / mmo's, Very few single player games keep me interested long enough to complete them.

I used to play games quite a lot. Now I don't. I can't remember the last time I played on my own console, it must be a year ago.

PC is a different matter, but generally it's the same old FPS games such as UT or CS 1.6/CS:S but some newer like BF3 and DayZ mixed in there for good measure. I used to play with mates on voice comms all the time, now I never do. Forever alone :(

This... FF7 I had 2 different save games with over 99 hours clocked on both of them.... now I just simply cannot be arsed with that kind of thing... I used to search everywhere in RPGs now its just a case of skimming through the bits I can be arsed with rather than checking everywhere.

I started with FPS on PC, then moved to car racing games/bike games on console, then to FPS on console, then moved back to FPS on PC and then onto simulators on PC. I game probably about 10 times less then I did a couple of years ago

I used to game pretty regularly up until a few yrs ago (about to hit 36).

Now a few hours on forza on Saturday night after the missus has fallen asleep is about it for me.

I'd say mine have changed for the worse.

I don't know if it's just me getting older or something else but games just don't seem to hold my attention anymore. I downloaded Tribes the other day, played for 5 minutes and uninstalled because I just couldn't be arsed. The only games I really play these days is just COD4 and WoW on and off and some select single player games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Oblivion, I honestly can't be bothered to play anything else because i'll get bored within a couple of minutes.

That and when I see new releases, like YouTube previews/reviews etc. of new games, they just all look so bad. Oh and EA and Activision ****ing me off too with their 'business' practices.

Sounds like I need a break.

I have found myself playing more now than I ever did (helps to have a really understanding women :D).

I find my self playing more FG's now than I ever did and like Kreeeee, I only play with like minded individuals.

I now get together with mates and practice regularly, and am beginning to see my gaming improve (ever so slightly lol).

Gaming is actually a big part of my life.

As much as I am in to my FG's, I still love story driven single players (Syrim, Red dead ect..)

Some people golf, play/watch football....... I game.

My women is very supportive and knew from the start that I was an avid gamer, and that dose help an awful lot.

Id say its my biggest passion, and I don't think I will ever stop.

seems most people are in a similar position, other commitments or just having less time means less game time nowadays.

I'm certainly no exception :( I used to game most nights till silly o'clock (Burnout Revenge anyone?) but this year especially has been quite bad. I manage a few hours a week at the minute, though this year since BF3 I have (or at least did) start playing online FPS more with randoms and friends. Prior to this I would only play coop and single player, so I guess I've still managed to expand my palette slightly :)

Occasionally manage a bash at some old console stuff or Tib Sun/RA2 with a friend too

Burnout Revenge anyone?
Oh yes, fond memories :)

I've been out of the gaming scene for about 2 years; just re-bought a 360 and there are a lot of games I want to play, but I find I don't have the patience to play for extended periods anymore. Just a bit bored of them I think.

The servers for Revenge are still up and running with a few people on them. Psymonkee and ps2wizz are all up for a game sometime if we can arrange a time....would you be interested? :)

Barely play anything anymore. Bored of the 360. I got 6 good years out of it so it's natural that it's run it's course. Just waiting to see what the next gen offers now.

If I fancy it I play combat training on blops or Gears and that's about it. Over the course of the last 5 years xbox p2p multiplayer has sucked the life and enjoyment out of MP for me. I'd rather play age of empires 2 on MSN gaming zone than suffer that **** any longer.

Single player or co-op is my only interest now.

I would if I could find a cheap copy of Revenge :) I thought they shut those servers down though? Weird.

Yar, know what you mean. I'm not interested in playing MP now unless it's just with mates. Went on CoD for the first time in nearly two years last night. Was bored after 2 hours; same with GoW (although it was better).

I reckon fun times could be had again if we got a decent group together again. I'd have more fun I think now, I just don't really care about 'progression' or stats at all now - just a bit of banter and a laugh. I was just celebrating every kill I got - rather than getting angry at the non-kills or deaths :D

I do wanna do the Spec Ops and Co-op GoW with some people though - anyone up for it?
