Asus Maximus V Formula Preview/ Results/ everything Thread!!!

id say we just use this thread i dont think a mod can be bothered to merge and the other thread is like 6 weeks old anyway....

guys make sure you update to the latest bios 701 that only came out yesterday

it adds and much nicer black boot screen with a ROG logo as well and under the hood fixes/improvements

To be perfectly honest, I think a thread started and contributed to by non-Asus reps isn't a bad idea in the interests of impartiality.

I'm more interested in the experiences of the guys that have actually purchased production boards as opposed to yourself with what might potentially be pre-production or review boards, for obvious reasons.

Not only that, but the reactions of someone that actually spent their own hard-earned money on a board maybe somewhat different from someone that didn't. The perception of value I expect to be somewhat different.

I'm sure everyone appreciates your assistance and enthusiasm in resolving any niggles but really you should just let everyone get on with it and provide their own unbiased feedback.

Keep plodding along at 4.7!!!

I am not an ASUS rep!!!

But I do have an 8 Pack :D

Well thats what I'm content with whilst keep vcore and temps with the recommended ranges so I don't prematurely degrade something I actually had to pay for - unlike someone else I could mention.

I am not an ASUS rep!!!

So in the interest of disclosure, are you saying that you don't have Asus supply you with samples of their products for free and well before they are generally available? Because if you're not an Asus rep, then you're certainly an Asus shill.

... of Stella Artois? With pointless contributions like this I don't doubt it.

Anyway, what is your point in hijacking this thread? Is it because it's not the one you started? Did that hurt your feelings or something?

New BIOS for the Extreme out today!

http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/Maximus_V_Extreme/#download

However I can't seem to update to it. The AI Suite update tool gives me this error when I select the file;

"The model of BIOS image doesn't match the BIOS ROM currently present."

Is your system working well mate and stable??? does the bios offer features you need?? If not my advise is update the secondary bios.

Do this from EZ update in Bios its self via USB stick. Its a lot less prone to problems than within the OS. I have not had one problem with EZ flash and I already have updated the secondary a couple of times.

Before updating switch to the secondary and then F5 to load defaults. Save and exit, then into EZ flash and update!!! Reboot, F5 reboot and away you go.

I am also getting a weird lag when windows is loading. The windows logo animation starts and then stops for about a second before continuing and then when the system boots into windows, the logon sound is jumpy and hesitates, then everything runs great!

Did you do a fresh windows install for the new board mate?? Intel chipset and storage drivers installed for raid array?

I am actually finding overclocking on the Maximus V Extreme fairly tricky. I enable XMP on my memory and it stops the CPU from downclocking itself when not under load. Anyone know why?

Me too with the logo, I thought it was my RAID0, so I may rebuild again.

Currently 3770k @ 4.6Ghz at 1.25v
Samsung green at 2000Mhz

My ud5h was way quicker to boot, its now in my 2008 R2 server and takes 5 seconds to boot, 8 seconds to rebootm where my MVE takes a full mibute to reboot, I've disable most things in the BIOS, but left ThunderBolt, USB3, BT & WiFi on

This could be several things. Do you have Speedstep enabled in Bios?? Under CPU in advanced settings do you have the C-States enabled???

In the OS if you have high performance power plan enabled it will not down clock either.

What RAM you using??? although this should have no effect at all on what your seeing as far as Speed Stepping goes.

Raid works very well on my Gene which is currently in my main system. I am not sure what the problem is here at boot as mine does not hault at all. Have you tried it at stock settings. What USB devices do you have attached to the system as this can often slow boot down as can devices not installed correctly.

The Formula I am currently benching a GTX470 on. The disk mode is AHCI and its litterally up in a second at 6.1ghz:)

What is your full system spec and maybe I can help more.

I am thinking the problem may be related to the GTX670 to be honest maybe new PCI ex codes are needed for this hardware and its slowing detection down. There are several PCI X profiles in Bios you could try these.

It's not your raid set up. I thought the same but I'm getting the same thing with the drives not in raid...

Yeah all powersave features enabled and high performance power plan enabled. Having said that, it downclocks on stock settings.

My ram is 2 sets of this.
