*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

actually, just make sure you flash it from recovery mode, I tried flashing from the clockwork app and it hung at the startup screen and needed to be reflashed.

I'd back up your existing ROM first and then go into the recovery and flash it from there after I knew I had a backup, plus as a previous poster said for some reason it won't go to the recovery console unless its plugged into USB which freaked me out a bit, thought I'd properly bricked it.

cool

what app did you use to flash from recovery, something similar to odin i guess? but for the nexus

can you install & run games from say a 32gb usb stick with Cyanogenmod CM10 mod ?

no idea sorry! I'll give it a try if I get chance.

once it was rooted I installed clockwork mod recovery (the fee one) from the play store, then go into that app and flash the recovery thingy (its pretty much the top option) which makes the app work.

Then hold down the power, volume up and volume down. It'll switch off, keep holding them all down and then it'll go into the recovery menu (remember it needs to be plugged into USB for this) and then you can browse using the vol up and down keys and the power button to select to the CM10 and Gapps files you've stored on the tablet and flash them from there, its a bit like flashing from the BIOS.

That was a dreadful explanation but basically figure out clockwork mod and download the latest Gapps rom and CM10 rom, stuff them onto your tablet and the rest is pretty self explanatory.

ah i get you, i normally do that, you mean do that instead of flashing from Clockwork recovery app when the tablet is on?

yeah you can do it from the app but that didn't work for me. Stupid idea to try to be honest, I've flashed enough motherboards and seen enough people say never do it from windows to have learned that it's not a smart move to do this sort of thing from inside the environment you're just about to destroy!

ok thanks,i look forward to the results. :)

actually I've no idea how I'd even try? Surely the default install location is somewhere on the device and I've never been presented with an option of where to install on android?

I could get the .apk file onto the usb and I expect I could install FROM there but not TO there?

Let me know if you know the steps you want testing and I'll give it a shot.

sounds like a recipe for disaster, what happens, even if it works, if the usb is not connected, surely you have all sorts of issues

i think 16gb is plenty big for all the games youd want, and use the usb for media

i don't know of any steps as i'm totally new to rooting. thanks anyway :)

Can't decide what to do with my nexus.
Its pretty much, touch wood, fault free.
Apart from the screen lift that's 1/10th of a mm, doesn't click, doesn't affect anything...
It does push down but after a while it pops up again. Same as before. Not a problem now, just wondering how it'll be after a few months.

For what it's worth I'm in exactly the same boat. Going to give it til the weekend and then decide

If anyone has a Canon DSLR you should definitely check out an app called DSLR Controller. It allows you to control the camera from the tablet, the app lets you change all sorts of settings and you can even review whats on the memory card.. no root needed!

Couple of pics of the pouch I bought. I'm pretty pleased with it, the nexus fits perfectly, the inside is very a soft microfibre like material. The pouch itself had quite a bit of padding to it which is kinda like memory foam, if you push your finger in to it you make an impression in it that disappears when you let go, I think it will protect the tablet really well. for £5 you can't really go wrong.

the dslr controller app doesn't work with all dslrs, I have the 300d which is not supported.

No problems with the nexus fitting in that case mate?

Reviews on there say that the Nexus is too tall?

Was cleaning the screen of my Nexus today and as i go down the left hand side i noticed a reasonably loud click again. I guess this is the screen lift problem!

Don't really care at the moment. If it gets worse i guess i can just return to Currys or Asus. Still within the days to take it back to Currys but it isn't worth the hassle if i am going to be fine in the future? i will be ok?!!?!

What cloud storage are you all using?
I've downloaded Google Drive, set up my free 5GB account, can't help but want more :p

Best off going with Dropbox. Google Drive takes forever to sync files between computer and device. Yes, with GD you get more capacity to begin with, but I have removed it from my PC til the sync improves. I've seen reviews of people saying the same thing.

50gig dropbox which I got free with my galaxy s3.shame its so slow to upload anything but can't mumble at the cost :)

Man, you lucky for getting 50GB space with your S3  I only have just over 2GB for now til I can decide to spend some money to increase it.
