Virgin Media Discussion Thread

This is the point I have been trying to make - your connection is OK, you are happy with how it is running in real world use, then you run some meaningless test that says it isn't OK. Ignore it and enjoy your connection.

Shad's connection is far from OK. You wouldn't see VM posting his graph on their website to demonstrate low latency and low jitter.

The problem being is that 99% of the public would not know what jitter or latency is! There for Virgin have no need to show off how good there network is, and unless you have a problem there is no need to run the tests.

Very good, I had to wait for a few auctions to get mine for a tenner. They do go for more. Well for a tenner if it doesn't do the job, you haven't wasted too much money. And if it doesn't, try flashing with DD-WRT, it may work better. I haven't done this.

It is meaningless if in real world normal use, his connection is fine.
i agree tbh..

if your getting the speed your paying for and do what u need, theres no reason to test...

u only need to test if u get problems.

100% agreed, which is why I'm not losing any sleep over it. It makes for an interesting comparison to other areas and other service providers though.

Except for P2P and newsgroups, which are "slowed down" weekdays 17:00-00:00 and weekends 12:00-00:00.

For this reason I have my torrent prog scheduled to only run midnight to 10 AM every day to avoid all the "peak" periods. Does the job fine.
