Because we'll make a profit allowing us to bring in other players.

Torres, Alonso and Masherano all say hi. You do not sell your best players if you're trying to build something.

There are variables to consider if he's kept - what if he spends next year on the physio's table? Even last season, which was his best at Liverpool, he missed 11 league matches. Ultimately, this is a side being rebuilt now. We're not going to win stuff next year, no matter who we sell and who we buy. We may as well sell players like Agger, get some money in, get new players in, and rebuild from there. Yes, our defence will be worse next season. Yes, the side will take time to gel. But we'll also end up with a better team as a whole, and a deeper squad, over the long term if we free up funds now.

Lets sell Suarez, Lucas and Pepe while we're at it aswell eh, they should bring in some big money so we can get more players in, just not as good as the ones sold though

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand: "@usainbolt u are jogging the 200m, this isn't fair! We'll put you upfront, just run behind defences + scholes will find you but #CanYouFinish"

Usain Bolt, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "Rio Ferdinand has tweeted me and says he will hook me up for a trial so I am looking forward to that. I went to Old Trafford once, we didn't talk extensively about me coming there, but Rio is going to set the meeting up and I will talk to Sir Alex Ferguson."

New target? :p

I'd like to see him have a trial, just for a laugh. If it turns out he's a natural footballer then we've got the fastest player in the world.

It depends on the stage at which you are in the building process. We sold Alonso and Masch (particularly Alonso) at the wrong time. Newcastle sold arguably their best player, and used the money to kick on. Man Utd sold their best player, admittedly spent a little time rebuilding, but have again kicked on. Arsenal sold their two best players, and now have a better squad than they did a couple of years back.

If we sell Agger and get nobody in, we will still have a solid (not as good, but solid) defence. If we sell Suarez, Lucas, or Pepe, that will severely deplete our team.

We're at a stage where we need funds. Some players are dispensible. Some players aren't. Agger - due to his age, injury proneness, and the fact that we do have some cover in his position - is dispensible. At £22m, he's very dispensible. Alonso and Masch were not. That's the difference.

Yes, it would be a shame to lose him - he's one of my favourite players in the side. But we'd be getting a very good deal and, provided the money was spent well, would end up with a better team.

Suarez can be brilliant, but he's far too selfish. You could argue that the lack of quality in the rest of the team meant that to pass it was to lose it anyway, but I doubt I'm the only one to think that that's just the make-up of the man.

I think Rodgers' style will suit him more and hopefully Rodgers won't molly-coddle him like Dalglish did, but he really needs to buck his ideas up and play the team game.

Liverpool had an ideal recipe for a flexible front two last season with plenty of variation and Dalglish's preferred big-man-little-man option, but he and Carroll couldn't play together at all. I find it rather ironic that Carroll finished the season the better of the two and by some distance in my opinion, but while Suarez is lauded, Carroll continues to be derived by many and finds himself on the market.

As for Agger, he's pretty much the perfect Rodgers centre-back, is he not? Comfortable on the ball and happy to come forward (which hopefully Rodgers will encourage more than Dalglish). I think he'd find next season far more to his liking than the past couple of seasons.

You sure about that, Real sold Sneijder, VDV, Robinho, etc, etc, etc. Barca sold Ronaldinho, Deco, Yaya, Eto'o, then Ibra.

All teams, every single team in the world sells their best players, yet fans always spout the top teams never sell their best players line. Arsenal have, Chelsea have, City are desparately trying to ( :p ) Utd have, Real, Barca, Inter, AC, Bayern... but its too good for Liverpool to do it?

Some of those teams replaced those leaving top players with more expensive players, some with less expensive some of those less expensive players end up better and some of the more expensive ones end up worse.

They sold VDV for 10mil and bought Kaka for 60, VDV is currently the better player. They sold Robben for what 25mil, and got Ozil for 18 or so, Ozil is currently the better player.

When you think you've got a good deal, you sell, simple as that, Liverpool aren't above it if Real, Barca, Chelsea and Utd aren't.

Agger isn't worth 20mil, Liverpool fans seem to somehow believe they have the best striker, central midfielder, DM, two cb's, think Johnson is the best right back, Enrique is the best left back, and Reina is the best goalkeeper in the league for the past umpteen years..... if any of that was true.... you'd have won something.

Outside of LIverpool fans I've seen exactly no one claim anyone outside of Reina(at times, not currently) and Gerrard(at times not currently) and Torres(at times, not currently) were amongst the best players in the league.

Pool fans seem convinced that a huge portion of the squad is amongst the best players in the league, hell a bunch of Liverpool fans think Maxi is a great player.... because he's barely scored or assisted in three years but managed 2 hatricks against two joke performances from the other side to make a single season look half decent.

The problem here isn't Agger's supposed pricing, Rodgers selling his best players, Liverpool being above anything, its Liverpool fans delusional thinking.

EDIT:- as for saying he's much better than Lescott, from what I recall he has in say the past 5 years, had two fantastic years for Everton, one ok one(I forget if it was injury hit, I think it was injury hit around him which effected the entire defence), 2 years at City in which one was getting used to his team, the next was first team in a title winning squad where he was one of the best defenders in the league. Agger isn't better than Lescott.

Defiantly going to have to refer you to one of the numerous DM rants on this topic (and get in before him) to point out Arsenal's squad are apparently all rubbish and were lucky to get 3rd at all...

Do agre on Agger though, pretty much every player has a price the club would sell at and given where he is in his career 18/20m should be taken as quickly as possible. There are plenty of decent cb's out there for less cash (and wages) just waiting for things to get moving again.

This is pretty much spot on, hate the walls of text though lol.

We won the Carling Cup DM, just sayin.

Also Barca replaced those players whilst having adequette back ups in those positions. Any forward - Messi
Yaya - Biscuits

Real also sold Sneidjer and VdV and replaced them with the likes of Ronaldo, Benzema and Kaka.

We have erm, Jamie Carragher.

Oh and he is better than Lescott, by far.

Sky Sports: Liverpool have confirmed that Luis Suarez has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield. We will bring you more on this story shortly.
