Be fair Robbo, you've been using Goal.com a fair bit this summer :p

In other news, Tony Barrett's piece in tomorrows Times claims that Suarez was earning just £35k per week () and that his new deal will take him closer to £100k. He also mentions that we'd be interested in taking Adam Johnson on loan as part of the Agger deal, we're interested in Sahin on loan too and that we're interested in Butland but not willing to be drawn into an auction for him. Oh and Allen will sign, eventually.

A handful of times perhaps, but I'm ignoring them now as they just talk rubbish. Either way, I think Tribal Football are even worse! :p

Can he play CM? :D

The Butland story has been fascinating, apparently we bid 6m 4 weeks ago and Birmingham laughed us out the door setting the price at 10m

No way is he worth 10m at this age in his game, no sensible team should pay it.

Bit that fascinates me more is that I thought Brum were completely broke and needed the big cash when someone came in for their players... I knew Clarke was adamant he could hang on to everyone, but I thought that was just silly media talk and if it actually happened we would have another club melt in the champ (like butter in the sun)

Can't say I've watched enough of Butland to have much of an opinion on him; from what I've read though, he's meant to be a massive prospect.

We won the Carling Cup DM, just sayin.

Also Barca replaced those players whilst having adequette back ups in those positions. Any forward - Messi
Yaya - Biscuits

Real also sold Sneidjer and VdV and replaced them with the likes of Ronaldo, Benzema and Kaka.

We have erm, Jamie Carragher.

Oh and he is better than Lescott, by far.

Firstly, Agger isn't better, I've seen dozens of people(incorrect) state Vidic and Kompany as top defenders, including many non Utd/City fans, I've never seen anyone but a Liverpool fan state any of your current defenders are top. Which games was Lescott awful in this season? I can't think of many/any, nor many for Agger, beyond a few really crap

Secondly, Carling cup is a joke cup, and yes Arsenal should have won it, that's just how pathetic Arsenal are, you made beating a crap team almost as hard as we did, well done, you won a cup barely anyone contests. Lastly, what does it matter who they bought?

As per usual its fight fact with new/different argument. He said you do not sell your best players if you are trying to build something. He didn't say that + its okay if you buy really good replacements. Again every club thinks they are buying someone better, even when they don't, and Kaka hasn't been a patch on VDV/Robinho/Sneijder in their time at Real, all clubs make mistakes.

Are you joking? VdV and Robinho were players who didn't achieve what they should have/didn't peak at Real. Then Ronaldinho and Deco were sold at the right time. They were not the best players at those two clubs.

The only 'mistakes' there were Yaya, Eto'o and Sneijder, in terms of ability going forward, but then Eto'o was causing problems with the team as a whole, no? So, basically, Yaya and Sneijder were the only glaring mistake there.

Edit :: I realise you'll reply with a wall of text, but it's just stupid saying Real/Barca getting rid of VdV/Robhino/Ronaldinho/Deco was them getting rid of their best players, lol.

Here in lies the problem, Robinho was liked by the fans, liked by the club and doing very well, 27 starts 5 sub appearances, so he was first team, 11 goals 8 assists in the league, and in 6 games in the CL he scored 4 and got 5 assists. He was most certainly ONE OF THEIR BEST players, and they most certainly sold him, something that was claimed to be untrue if you're trying to build something. But that is exactly what one of the biggest clubs in the world did, they sold one of their bests and built a better team.

VDV wasn't fantastic, but he's still playing better than his replacement, however he was sold to get funds to build a new team, something that was claimed didn't happen and implied that Liverpool were above having to do this.

I provided examples of EVERY single top club in europes biggest leagues doing something he exactly claimed top teams can't possibly do.

yes, they did sell them at the right time, yes they were some of Barca's best players at the time they were sold, wages, money, timing. You sell great players to make room for others. They were two huge wage earners at the time they wanted to give Xavi, Iniesta and Messi huge contracts, another reason Yaya went, the wage he wanted and the money they needed to put elsewhere. Barca sold fat Ronaldo/figo/eto'o/ibra/many many more, Utd sold thin Ronaldo/beckham/etc, Arsenal sold Petit/Overmars/Henry/Vieira/a dozen more.

All clubs, every last one, sells top players to build something new. The very point is, selling your best players at the right time can improve your team, and every club does it. Selling Agger for more than he's worth and buying someone as good and cheaper and on a lower wage would simply be good business.

There are maybe 10 irreplaceable players in the world, none of them are at Liverpool, a good team sells players when they get good offers. If you massively over rate your players you won't ever be happy with the fee's you get.

Again I'll ask the question, how is it Liverpool have supposedly the best back four in the league, yet played so poorly last year? How can they have a great striker, great wingers, and great central midfielders.... but suck?

two real possibilities, they got incredibly unlucky for 3 years straight.... or the players aren't as good as you think.

Butland looked highly impressive during the Olympics.

Everton don't look like they're going to make any more moves.

Very uncharacteristic behaviour from Arsene Wenger this season.

According to this, we are still in the market for midfielders...

Maybe the whole RVP thing, whether he stays or goes, was a positive catalyst for Arsenal to reinvigorate the squad!

Firstly, you're wrong.

Secondly, I'm fairly certain I remember Man City using many of their best players to try and go past us in the CC??????????

As per usual facts only suit you when you look at them your way, who you are lining up as a replacement is obviously very ****ing important, the difference between going from VdV+Sneidjer(who wasn't really that good at Madrid.) to Ronaldo+Benzema+Alonso, is a bit of a staggering difference from going from Agger to Williams, as usual you just twist **** to stand up to your ****ing dumb arguments.

At one game, fifty-two scouts went to watch him, lol. He's one of those players clubs are pretty sure is going to be really, really, really good. It was a stat highlighted in the commentary of a GB game.

AOC went for ~£12m, up to a potential ~£15m, according to Wikipedia... so why couldn't he be worth £10m?

Oh we ripped Arsenal off for AOC... ;) (12m up front, 3m in add ons and 50% of the next sale)

You can't say no to 15m for a player who wasn't ready to start week in week out in the prem (but needed that sort of football).

Butland is the same position, not ready for prem week in week out but because he is the nest big english prospect is priced as such.

6m was an excellent bid for him and any team would be fools to spend more, he's still a teenager and has a lot of development to do.

Lucas Moura talked to 'Folha' after the game about PSG: "This is the good thing, I'll stay at SPFC until the end of the year. It's well underway"

So, fingers crossed for RvP... :p

It makes you wonder if RVP had any intention to leave, or whether he made an empty threat to goad the higher-ups into making some signings. He's reluctant to join City, apparently United haven't made a satisfactory bid, nor have Juventus. Obviously we don't know the full details on any of the bids so far, but we're lead to believe that the money offered hasn't been the right amount for us to consider selling him. Very dangerous considering he has less than a year on his current contract but it isn't all bad.

Firstly, like you have said, we have taken action off the back of this situation and made some very good signings, secondly, at the end of the upcoming season will there be a long line of clubs ready to give a big contract to a 30 year old striker with a cloudy injury record? He's a top quality player, no doubt, but at that age, with no resale value will there be many teams willing to give him the sort of money he deserves? He'd have 3 or 4 years tops, I'd imagine, and I just don't see anyone willing to give him mega money.

It could have been a bluff on his part all along.

Well Kaka was bought at least a full year before VdV was sold for a start

Robinho left RM becuase he wouldn't sign a new contract

Irreplaceable is highly subjective, just because you think so doesn't mean its correct

How come we were terrible last year but had one of the best defensive records in the league? Oh and Pepe has picked up the golden gloves award 3 times since he has been here, which would show we have indeed had the best defense on many occasions in the past 5/6 years

It's finally over (big sigh of relief)
