ATI and windows 8. Bye bye anything below 5XXX

I bet most people in this thread that are slating Windows 8 haven't even used it. I bet they also slate Windows Vista for being awful, but love Windows 7.

Windows 7 is Windows vista with a new skin, Windows Vista was never bad, Windows 8 isn't bad either, it's just different.

Why not just use the default Windows drivers? They're from AMD anyway, and these cards pretty much can't be optimised any further.

because frequently when a new game comes out and has issues it's the drivers that need updating - AMD are saying they are not releasing new drivers so if a game comes out and has issues with AMD's drivers then your choices are... buy a new graphics card or buy a new graphics card

Lol I'll have whatever you are smoking.:D

On another note, if you can afford to pay to upgrade to windows 8 you can afford a relatively modern GPU i would have thought.

I would rather upgrade my 4890 (my current Graphics card) then buy Windows 8 any day.

That aside. a new GPU would benefit anyone more then a new windows, seeing as a new windows will only bring more issues with new software/games/drivers, more so in the beta/early stages :(.

i believe most people looking at windows 8 only want it for the new style UI which was designed for the windows phone operating system, and/or the more secure network security, aka Passwords on images (thinking of the lil kiddys who want to hide x rated images here) and the PIN login.

Other then that why would anyone want Windows 8 in it's current form knowing it's build for phones/tablets over desktops?

I'm so gonna regret this :D

To be honest he right, windows 7 is a great operating system, but in reality it is just a refined honed vista with a nicer front end. Just as XP was a nicer refined windows millennium.
I expect windows 8 to be a bit of lemon but windows 9 will probably be a absolute gem.

how can windows 8 be optimised for android?
that's like saying "if windows 8 is optimised for Linux"

anyway - this happens every time MS release a new OS, nobody really wants to change but it will get foisted upon the vast majority of people because it will become the default OS that all the big players put on their machines
I'm sure the only reason most people moved to windows 7 out of choice was because of DX10/11
if they do a similar thing with DX12 then I'm sure most of us will begrudgingly upgrade then

It's pretty much based for multiuse but largely for ease of use on the windows phone isn't it? I don't know I don't really care tbh

Just that statement alone "windows vista was never bad"

eww!

Despite the fact that Windows 7 REALLY is just windows Vista with a new interface?

The problem with Windows Vista was that some companies messed up when it came to releasing drivers for it, they pushed out crap that didn't work, and some even had class action lawsuits against them for it.

The whole Vista situation is pretty multi-layered, and those who write it off as an awful OS have no idea what they're talking about.

The other problem was that Vista was being used incorrectly by OEMs, it was being pre-installed on computers that were underspecced to run it, thus people thinking it was slow and bloated. Windows 7 would run the same if you'd installed it on the same underspecced computers that had Vista on them.

When 7 hit, it had the same recommended specs as Vista did, but the baseline level of hardware was much better so people assumed it was "faster" than Vista.

When Vista came out, it had high RAM usage, loads of people didn't like this and bitched about it. They also didn't understand what they were trying to form opinions on. Windows Vista (just as 7, and now 8) uses prefetch, it would cache things in RAM that you used regularly to speed up your user experience.

People only saw the high RAM use, didn't understand why it was high, didn't like it and had a tantrum over it.

The reason Vista got slated was primarily down to stupid people installing it on PCs that didn't meet the minimum requirements, talking smack and generally not having an informed opinion on the things they were complaining about.

erm your card will still work in windows 8 it just wont be getting any driver updates

What's the point of having a decent dedicated GPU without being able to access a control panel to change settings. Stock Windows drivers do not expose any settings to control the card.

Woo yay stock drivers....zero control.
