Guild Wars 2

Never known an mmo where so many people are stuck on what class to pick. It just proves that the classes are just great fun to play. Even though im 100% certain i want to play a warrior, in the back of my mind im thinking of making an alt necro:D

All I played last night was sPvP just to see what classes were causing the biggest impact and 4 are standing out from the rest. Now, I didn't switch up my lobbies so I generally played with the same people and you could tell who had learnt their class, but I feel that Warriors, Guardians, Eles and Rangers are the go to primaries.

While the trinity has been weakened, Guardian (which I was playing) is a massive benefit to a team. Warriors are tough and deal huge damage if not countered properly, Eles and Rangers both offer great dps/condition alternatives.

This isn't to say that mesmers, engineers, thieves, necros aren't equally as good. Infact, I'd say they are harder to play and it's taking more time for the masses to get to grips with them. Mesmers and thieves in particular have great potential for the skilled player. Necros and engineers are coming out fairly low on my pick list from what I've seen.

My 2p.

Have you tried this build. With this I could clear the 3 maps on that challenge mission before it starts the first map again. Its a powerful build for most things really.

Btw, I have tried registering on mmo-guild.co.uk but I'm not getting the the confirmation email.

what user name did you use? NM found you and activated your account, you good to go.

that build is based on your main prof being a necro, I'm a monk.

Up to 14/40 now as got the black moa, pretty easy quest, funny enough had to get 2 as the first one was on my hero, which don't bloody count :p

Have changed my main back to what was my second choice. I will definitely roll a warrior as my main, can just equip longbow and stay back in WvWvW, and my second will most likely be a Sylvari Necromancer.

I'm definitely going with Necromancer as my main though I'm not 100% on the race yet, I haven't actually tried Sylvari or Asura so it will either be Human or one of those.

I am on the fence with this game. After swtor i swore i wouldn't touch another MMO. After watching some of the live streams, I'm really warming to it.

Can anyone in beta give me their verdict on the game so far?

swtor was great, but rushed out the door. GW2 levels of polish is miles ahead of swtor even now.

No subscription fee either so its no different to buying a normal PC game.

That's the clincher for me! Means, even though monthly fees aren't much, i can play WoW and this in conjunction with eachother. I'll be playing WoW competitively and this to fill downtime. This game seems so much more immersive.

Only other MMO i played after WoW was Aion...what a mistake that was. Got to level 20 on a templar and was like "NAH"...grind...This is the only other MMO i know will keep me coming back.

EDIT - When's the next beta night? I NEED to play again. D:

The two games are not even in the same ballpark, GW2 is miles ahead of SwToR.

Added: just logged into GW1 on Tangoon The Red, (20:49) if anyone wants to do things, gonna do a few more armour runs.

I agree with MadMossy and Wab. The BWE for GW2 were miles better to play than SWTOR after patch 1.2.

No monthly subs, its a no brainer!

I agree with this mostly. Warriors are still seeming to be the most used sPvP class by far (I'd say every 1 in 3 people I've seen in there are warriors). I've been playing a necro though, and while they can struggle in group situations they can be devastating in a 1v1 or 2v2. It all depends on the build you're using I think.

I've never played an MMO before (because of fees), and never had the urge to try GW1. But now this looks to be quite fun, and no fees just gives that freedom that I don't feel shackled to the game.

But this being all completely new to me, I have no idea what to expect or how things work. I'm just looking up information on the wiki and other sites about classes, skills, watching videos for gameplay and so on. I'm starting to understand some things, but theres a lot of information to take in!
I really like the look of the asura, tempted to roll one of them first, maybe a thief or engineer, or possibly an elementalist, but can't say anything until having played the game for a bit.

One thing is I don't fully understand how the worlds and servers work, and the process of choosing a server to play on, and a guild to be affiliated with. I just want to play casually (jump in jump out, all around my timings), so tempted to just wing it on my own and join up with something later if it starts to become boring. Any advice here? Seems from reading that a lot of players here are going to play on the desolation server, although I'd prefer not to be in an overcrowded world.

The server don't work that much different from say a fps, you log in and get on, just think of every map in a fps being a world, not a map, a world thats broken up into say 10 maps. What ever worlds you choose will then be your default log in server (yes you can change but that something to think about later if ever needed)

Lots of guilds are casual, so should never be a issue if when and how you want to play, thats how it should be, guilds are there to create a support network and people to have a laugh with in the game, they not there to tell you how and when you should play, if they try its a bad guild or a very hardcore guild.

As for Desolation being very busy, yes it will be but IMO thats the best way to go, there will be no queuing in this game to log in, as every server has a overflow server/s, One thing for sure is the world will never really feel overcrowded its designed to make sure that never happens.

^Ah thanks that makes more sense now.

So it seems two important things to decide on before playing is choose a guild and choose a server. Is there a list of ocuk (or british/european) guilds somewhere? I can see you've got one in your sig, but I'd like to have a look around at some others before jumping in to one. :) I'm just looking through the different servers now.

Edit: ok looking at skillsets and traits I'm torn between mesmer, elementalist, or thief. Going to have to watch some videos on each before deciding which to play first!
