Played this on Xbox however I want to get it on PC now. I have a 5870, what kind of settings am I looking at in 1080p. For me, I can quite happily play along at 30fps.

Mostly medium id suggest, maybe a few settings on high. I wouldnt bother with any msaa though as it's an fps killer.

Sounds good to me for my ageing card. Will be building a new system next year anyway so, it will do until then.

If I buy BF3 anywhere other than Origin, do I still have to activate it on Origin or use Origin in any way?

I found with my old oc'd sli 470's at 1920x1200, i7 920 @4ghz, a mix of high and medium worked well, couldnt use msaa though as i hit the vram limit very quickly. I can now max it with a single gtx 670 with ultra preset and x4 msaa, but tbh the game still looks pretty good on lower settings.

I've got a lowly 6770, so not as good as the 5850 but still manage 1080p with most low plus some med/high like Mesh etc. Gets me a solid 40-60FPS easy (its capped at 60, but mostly 50+) new CQ maps are the worse, doesnt get much above 50FPS but very solid anyway.

Ive always found the b2k maps to be a bit more demanding than the latest ones.

The one with the aircraft carrier and skyscrapers, gulf of Oman I think, is the worst. Last week it was a total lagfest maxing my CPU to 100%. Not sure if this was a bug or if it's just a crappy map.
