What is the appeal of sports games?

OP, you always lose at Fifa don't you? Like really badly, looking so inept in front of the people you most desire 'hardcore gamah' respect from must be terrible.

Therefore anyone who plays Fifa is a moron, pond-life, and pointless.

Yeah, that works. The problem's definitely not with you. I mean, a re-union of 15 friends and the best thing to do is spit your dummy out when they're not playing something you like.

Unless the friends really are pondlife, and then you need some new friends. In this case, it's definitely 'don't blame the game, blame the playa' ;)

I play fifa, and frankly I'm lush ;)

I'm alright at it myself thanks.

Now I'm sure this dosen't apply to ALL FIFA gamers, but from my personal dealings with people who do (and maybe I'm just around the wrong people) but I don't like them because they are groups of people that live on the "gang" mentality.

Meaning you aren't deemed "cool" or "accepted" if you don't try and convince everyone you are a badass, throw common courtesy out the window and treat everyone like they are less than you. A lot of them are involved with drugs as well. If they aren't up to no good you can find them down the pub or at a gathering off their faces on god knows what playing FIFA, getting all wild about their "AMAZIN GOAL MATE" like animals. Suggestion of playing anything else is totally out the window.

Thus why I have a bad association with FIFA players and stay away from it.

I actually almost had a bit of pee come out reading this.

LOOOOOL

I would say of all the male people I know ranging from ages 3 to mid 40s, over half of them like a good old game of FIFA. Strangely none of them are in gangs or drug lords though. Dave from the pub is always off his face to be fair though.

I love sport games. I play quite a few and it always upsets me knowing that the latest NHL etc won't see the light on the PC.

I play quite a bit of Fifa 12 on the PC, great game to play with the kids on my laptop, we did this whilst we were on hols last week in the lake district. Couple of PS3 pads, fire up Fifa 12, 1080p gaming on a 17" laptop... Excellent fun whilst the missus watched rubbish on the telly in the evening... Not a lot else to do in a log cabin at 10pm at night and the kids are bored in the lakes..

We also fired up F1 2011 on the same laptop, some great F1 split screen races.. Not to mention Dirt 3, F1, Football and Rally are all forms of sport, and it kept us from getting bored, all of them sport games..

Sport games are excellent fun, and I'm not a sporty person at all.

Don't mind a bit of NHL or something on the PS3 either..

Clearly a troll (vote ban).

Either that or just bummed his casual gaming mates own him up constantly at FIFA which shouldn't be the case due to his leet =GaMInG SKiLlZ= :p

You are clearly insinuating that anyone that likes sports games fall into your "gang" ideology.....games LIKE Fifa.....those games being sports games.

Ok I'll bite.

I'm insinuating nothing of the sort. I will openly go out and say I don't like Fifa, which is classed as a sports game.
Now, just because one sports game has a bad rep with me dosen't mean I'm going to start associating people who play "Kinect Sport" or any other none Fifa game with my "gang ideology" and trash them about it.
You making connections between with my problem with Fifa and connecting it to the overall genre of sports games is a bit of a stretch.

For the third time so far in this thread, all I wanted out of this was to see what actually appeals to people in sports games, such as Fifa, since I would rather just go out and do those sports instead of sitting down to play them.

I haven't played an NHL game in years, they were amazing fun on 4 player. No pc though :( that's a little lame. They release nba games don't they? Strange no NHL then.

Last NHL game was 2009 I think, a very poor port using the PS2 engine. Such a shame, thankfully the finally did Fifa correct and the last two Fifa releases have been on par or better then console, still have to get my NHL kicks from a PS3 though..

If thats all you wanted, why didnt you just ask that question?

Instead you made sweeping statements and generalisations, some of which apply to people in this thread.

You wernt just asking a question about what the appeal of sports games are, you wrapped it up in stereotypes and then wonder why people jump down your throat.
