Midfield 3 of;

-------Carrick-------
Cleverley----Kagawa

Is the way forward

If we don't get RvP, then that's what I'll want to see (switching Anderson/Cleverley depending on who seems to be doing better). We could still use that for bigger games with RvP though, he was a winger, wasn't he? :p

As usual utter rubbish

No...welbeck was 100% untested.

Fergie knew he wouldn't play berbatov its not like there was any life line after he had dropped him from the cl final squad altogether lol. How poor all your memories are. At no point was fergie going to use him seriously as he then showed. He should have been sold and a good player brought in right away.

That leaves rooney who'd just had a patchy season and chicharito who'd had a productive first season

An injury to rooney or chich would have ended our season totally.

Damn this is depressing. No striker and 1 midfielder down (this time Modric will be off IMHO).

I don't really see who we could have signed as striker who would have been an upgrade though. If Pav had been retained, this could have been his chance... Redknapp has once again managed to rip out the guts of a club before he leaves. Reflecting on it, I can't think of one signing he originated that has left us stronger as a club now...

Oh well, in Levy we trust; I genuinely believe that too (did anyone else know that he actually has a large interest in Spurs along with Joe Lewis?)

Really don't see why people have a problem with RVP to UTD. It can only make us stonger and also give us more depth in front. Look at City's strike force. We want to get the title back. You really think that will be achievable should Rooney get injured? Trusting Welbeck and Hernandez to outperform Aguero and Tevez at this stage, is just pipe dream. In a way im glad we lost the title, coz if we didn't, would Fergie really have addressed our midfield problem. The way Anderson and Cleverley linked up last season... and now with the addition of Kagawa gives me that hope.

Johnson, Boyata and Guidetti to Everton on loan it says in the Mail. Will be a great move for both players and clubs.

Kolo and Dzeko on the way out as well apparently, hopefully permanent deals. Both good players but if they can't accept they are not starters then they can leave.

NdJ to Inter is rumoured and if we can get 10m or so then we should take it as he is going to struggle even more to play this season.

Ahh, I forgot Im communicating with someone unfamiliar with the basics of english language and grammar.

AH yes i forgot i had to post in baby language for you.

That leaves rooney who'd just had a patchy season and chicharito who'd had a productive first season

The context of these posts was that we should have bought a striker at te beginning of the previous season, to the one that has just passed.

berbatov had just been dropped from the CL final squad completely, Rooney had thrown a strop and finished with a low goals position and Chicharito had just had a great first season. Welbeck was back from Loan, but not a 20 goal a season player.

But of course you can just ignore all of that and insist that we didnt need a striker then, but we are desperate for a 22 million pound 29 year old right now, DESPITE welbeck progressing, Hernandez ticking on and rooney having a good last season.

Word.

City are still stronger.

Even if manyoo sign van Persie, and even if he emulates the season just gone when he's not the big fish any more, the options they have don't compare to the strike force City have.

Rooney
RvP (who hasn't signed)
Welbeck
Hernandez
Berbatov (who is moving on?)

Aguero
Tevez
Ballotelli
Dzeko (who is moving on?)
Guidetti
Adebayor (who is moving/has moved on?)

That's without City making any major signings up front and manyoo making a major signing. If you accept that players that are earmarked to go do actually go, and RvP joins manyoo, they're still not on an even keel, and if RvP or Rooney gets injured they're light again. If City lose a player for a while they've still got the strength up top and they still have the chance to buy anyway.

Can't see why a manyoo fan wouldn't want RvP.

But of course you can just ignore all of that and insist that we didnt need a striker then, but we are desperate for a 22 million pound 29 year old right now, DESPITE welbeck progressing, Hernandez ticking on and rooney having a good last season.

Does 'ticking on' mean 'not having done much'?

money, age, injury history, harm the development of players we have, how does he fit into a formation with Valencia, Kagawa, Rooney, Nani?

There's a bundle of reasons.

22m for a 29 year old with a shaky injury record and a year left on his contract is silly money. We might get 2, maybe 3 top seasons out of him, and that's assuming no injuries. It's a ridiculous waste of money when the midfield and defence need strengthening more.

It's not so much about not wanting him for me, but when a player is 29, or there's a year left on their contract, there's a ceiling to how much money can be spent and still seem like a sound investment. Both of the above apply to Van Persie.

It's a strange situation really, I think Rooney is our only top level striker (imo he's our only current striker ever likely to be at that level disregarding Berbatov) so there's really no doubt that Van Persie can't do anything but make us stronger, probably significantly.

There's also the midfield, which I have to agree is a far more pressing issue, still. Can only hope Fergie is holding out until he can find the perfect player to slot in there. It's slightly odd that our centre mid has been so relatively weak for so long, when you consider how much of United's success under Ferguson was built on dominating games in the middle.

People won't be complaining about price/midfielders when they see him play, you won't regret spending £22m on him, he improves CMs, he's made Barca want Song by himself

"Yes, Liverpool can do a deal even though I have two years on my contract. But no, I haven't changed my mind on the subject. Some times you can end up in a position where it's not your decision. I don't want to be somewhere I am not wanted but I would prefer if they want me to stay. That is my first priority." - Agger

So not going to force to stay if he isn't wanted but would rather stay it would seem.
