BBC online said:
Two senior ministers have questioned the use of private firms to deliver certain services in the aftermath of G4S security failures at the Olympics.
...
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said it had made him "think again" about the default use of private contractors. And Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said only the state could provide "large-scale" contingency back-up.
I wonder when it will dawn on the Tories that this might just possibly apply to the NHS . . . and the railways

I mean G4S has nothing to do with private health care - i.e. BUPA. ...
Ah, OK, let me explain.

The private sector G4S failed to deliver what the Government (and taxpayer) required - they were interested in profit rather than delivering the required service.

The Tories want to privatise the NHS and turn it into a "wealth creation" opportunity. They have already done so with the railways which have just announced huge fare increases. In fairness to them, they did have to (sort of) renationalise Railtrack when it was losing money and will soon sell it off again at a huge loss to the taxpayer. Jeremy Hunt and Philip Hammond claim that they are beginning to see the light.

My 2nd and 3rd languages are absolutely dreadful, I don't get to use them half as often as I would like to, perhaps because I don't post on forums using them . . . ;)

To be honest, the day they privatise healthcare I'll be gone.
How someone can say poor people aren't entitled to a healthy body is just, beyond me.

And thats coming from a man who has private healthcare insurance through work so it isn't a question of whats best for me. It's out of principle.

A lot of things that were privatised I don't think should have been. Just run better.

i have to admit everything that has been privatised is now much more expensive. i hate to think how bad the NHS could be if its run for profit.

I'm glad you explained that, this is now much clearer to me than before. It all makes sense now. I was blind but now I see.

Except for the bit where G4S donated £2.5m to the armed forces to apologise for missing the deadlines because they could not train enough people in time and have subsequently made a loss of between £30-50m over the entire debacle.

But yeah, otherwise crystal clear. Makes flawless logical sense. All of it.

2.5 million I am sure that will have covered the costs for absolutely everything ...

I've discovered most people's responses to SH's threads are rubbish :p

And predictable.

I am kind of getting sick of the endless stockhausen bashing (even if he does incite it somewhat) it comes across more as bullying really and casts those that do it in quite a negative light. Well in my eyes at least.
