I don't know any details but there's been a thread on red cafe for quite a while with quotes from him in 2009 talking about having agreed a deal with us but the idea being for him to carry on learning in Chile for a few more years. I'd presume that's when we came to the arrangement. Then there are quotes from about March this year from his club directors talking about us 'robbing' the the club and how it would be a bad move for him. I guess he's improved quite a bit and there may have been a hint from other clubs they'd come in and pay a higher price so we've rushed our option a bit.

Because it's a lot of money for a player that's getting on a bit, is in the last year of his contract, will have a high wage, arguably hasn't been consistent enough/patchy injury record and I don't see where he will fit in the system much either. I also rather that we invested the time and money in youth players.

I don't think we need him, I can't see that a deal for Berbatov is in the works as it's been rather quiet on that front. I'd also probably rather we kept Berba and rotated him in more, and not just lumping him up front on a 4-5-1.

Kagawa also adds another option to the squad that we didn't have before as he's able to slot into the role that Rooney has been playing, with any of the strikers then playing in front of him gives more options and rotation.

It's also not the most important position/area on the pitch to be spending £22million + a big chunk of wages a week.

EDIT: I also don't think it's a case that Fergie hasn't sold Berbatov, I don't think there's been enough interest in him to be honest.

While those are fair points, Rooney is the only striker we can rely on. Welbeck sometimes has trouble and Hernandez has been poor. Berbatov will probably go and doesn't feature anyway.

Imagine if Rooney gets injured, City would probably run away with it, and god forbid playing the likes of Barca, etc.

At least with Anderson/Cleverley/Kagawa added to the CM options we can fill out the midfield a bit better if we end up facing Barca for example.

There's also the fact that it seems to be RvP or nobody, so I'll be more than happy with him. :cool:
 
Maybe Wenger wants to focus on pace? Personally I'd be delighted with Van Persie, just for what he can do for us now. Couldn't give a stuff about resale value really. You take a risk with any player.

Berbatov would be amazing for Spurs in my opinion. Would never happen though.
 
The only problem I see with Rooney and RVP playing together is them not reaching 20+ goals together like they did last season. It'll more than likely be a competition between the two for goals. Saying that, I am pretty sure Rooney will just be giving that free roam role and RVP will just poach.... then you have Kagawa setting up goals. :cool:
 
Rumours of Lennon leaving Spurs by the end of the week for Inter with Julio Cesar in exchange. This being on the back end of Walcott not being available.

Also, Modric possibly moving to Madrid by the end of the week.

So Levy, would it not be best to hedge your investments by buying your replacement players now.. or must you wait until we loose the first 5 games before you do something? Have you not learnt anything from previous seasons?

As far as i was aware, AVB had a number of priorities. One of them being to resolve the Modric situation and the other two sign a couple of CFs. None of these have been met.

What's going on?

I'd rather it was nobody and we gave chances to the strikers that we have on our books, including Berbatov.

We have quite a few attacking options and I see there are far more reasons to NOT sign RvP than there are TO sign him.

People just want us to sign someone and are clinging onto it being RvP.

City have arguably made the best piece of business in the window and that's because they've kept hold of Tevez seemingly which is a big boost.

I think its just his agent trying to get interest. He looked quite good last season though got about 9 assists and 6 goals I think. He just went off the rails.

Would fit the criteria of player we are looking for so who knows.

We could make a move for a goalkeeper as well if the Hart reports are true.

This is partly true, but RvP is an extremely good player, Welbeck isn't at the moment, and Hernandez will never be a complete striker.

As I said, if Rooney gets injured we'd have to rely on Welbeck and that just won't do. Aguero gets injured? City have Tevez, or maybe even Balotelli if he's on form, he's pretty damn good.

Just to point out in an interview on monday AW stated there are no negotiations taking place for RVP... all the stuff about his 'move' is pure twitter feed.

We'll have to wait and see on Berbatov, could go either way.

I think people are far too harsh on Welbeck to be honest. Hernandez won't be a player that will score you 20 goals and 10 assists.

He is however a striker that can come off the bench and certainly grab you a goal, I think Kagawa and him would work well together too.

If Rooney gets injured then the wingers and midfielders would also have to pick it up and grab goals which certainly isn't impossible in Nani/Kagawas case especially.

Surely if you're saying that City have done brilliantly by having a player of Tevez's quality to step in then you imply that United don't have that type of striking option and would benefit from bringing in a world class striker? Unless you think rvp is noticeably worse than tevez?
