Women, boyfriends, crap cars and image. Why does this annoy me?

Mega lolz, i can only assume by the rolleyes and end comment that i've hit a nerve ;)

Not really, don't care just find your general comment that I discuss major purchases with my wife as being under the thumb stupid.

I personally don't know anybody who wouldn't discuss a car purchase with their other half and I don't think I'd want to be friends with someone who treated their wife like that.

Back on topic I did wonder why it annoyed th OP so much that this women (who he isn't interested in) was going out with a chap who owns a 'run of the mill' 3 series.

My point and original 'joke' was on how you’d decided to announce to the forum your next car would be an S3, you didn't write you've agreed with your wife, it was more along the lines of you've been allowed.

You just seem to give away a few telltales in that single sentence, perhaps a little more than you would have liked ;)

That is all, i will pipe down now :p

I can get that giving your partner a heads up on something like that is prudent but I'd never be told what I can and can't spend my own money on. So long as my bills are paid what I spend my money on is my own business. If it's you buying the car and not a joint purchase, why are you letting her dictate to you what you buy?

Joint purchase as we don't need 2 cars, she doesn't tell me how to spend my money likewise I don't tell her how to spend hers.

Fair enough. I stand corrected.

That's the same way me and the gf look at things. Although she's admittedly so terrible with money she'd prefer to give me the lot and me give her an allowance and sort all her bills out myself...

Other way round for us, before I met her I was up to the knackers in debt, nearly lost my house and just eaked out surviving day to day, now I'm better as I've 'retrained' myself and if I don't have the cash on me I don't spend it.

I must be doing something wrong. I have a Nissan 350Z and I get **** all.

problem there is the badge, only people with motors knowledge know about the 350, if it had a bmw/audi/merc badge then you'd be in hospital with a crushed pelvis.
I wonder what a land rover and Peugeot get me? Probably a cow and five sheep (feels that way anyway)

I see this allot when I'm on my FE day, all the girls come out of the woodwork and head straight for the lads that have the nice cars, obviously thinking they have lots of money, In reality they either have massive loans or the cars on finance.

Its funny listening to a bunch of blokes squabbling amongst themselves with graph paper, pie charts and detailed technical explanation about why their car is better than the one their girlfriend/wife/female friend fancies, hoping that it will in some way change the universe into a 'corrected' state.

Who cares if it is on finance, loans or whatever means either - first impressions count and its a sad truth that no matter how you spin it, people will still go with their first impressions which is to ogle at what they think is a nice car.

So you either man up and get a new car to impress the girls, or change the girl for one who doesn't care.

It's worth noting that having a series of 911's, M3's and Maserati's has made me an urban celebrity amongst all the girls i come into contact with ;)

You guy's make me chuckle !

The OP has an issue, a girl he likes in the office the problem is her head turned for a BMW 318i which is a few years old which is odd given the OP has a "Mini Cooper S" (no less !) he feels hard done to.

Maybe she thought modern Mini's are hairdresser cars

Read fail! The girl herself has the Mini, so she is impressed with the Beemer even though it is slower than the car she has herself.

I don't know what the OP has (unless I have failed at reading too ) although it could had an interesting twist to the story.
Edit: S2000, should have clocked on when people kept mentioning them.

So, If this is a fast flash car & You are a fast flash driver, Does that make me a fast flash passenger ?

Can't remember what film that comes from but this thread reminded of it. :D

As has been said above the OP doesn't have a mini, he has an S2000 and a supercharged Jag.....
