My voltage, guessing this is why an engineer is coming out tomorrow (downstream levels are OK).

Any ideas what causes the levels to rise like this?

Anyone having issues with virgin today?

Just came home to find our internet isnt working, reset the SH, still nothing, phoned virgin and they told me that my area is fine and should be working.

cheers

Go 100mb BB

Are Virgin having issues awinchurch? I'd be inclined to say it's utilisation otherwise as at 7:40am it was up at 104mb consistently. It's only the nights around this time when it's up and down and generally all over the place :p

Well considering there was less than 1% bandwidth used about 3 weeks ago in your area i would say no. Probably a routing issue somewhere along the line but then your pind is only 17... Strange. I'll log into the work server in a bit and have a look

Yeah, I was just told the same thing on the VM help forum so I'll get an engineer out. As it happens, my speeds and pings are back to normal, (well they were over an hour ago) so I hope it stays that way. But my power levels are still over 11.

You would be very unlucky for a downstream power of 11dBmv to affect your speeds. I ran my hub for a year with 11 - 12 dBmv downstream

55dBmv is slightly too high. It could be many things causing it. The biggest causes though are faulty/damaged cables, incorrect home run cable (satellite cable), faulty/loose connectors, faulty passive devices, gel in the connections from cables or barrels, faulty tap ports or high upstream from the amp (network fault)

So quite a lot really.... also i missed off faulty equipment but its rarely the equipment at fault

All,

I upgraded my 10mb line to 60mb yesterday (VM came round and installed a super hub).
I checked my line speed when they left and it was still around 10mb, this morning I turned the super hub off for an hour (it's in modem mode) and when I turned it back on it was still around 10mbs. How long does it usually take for the line speed to increase?

It should be instant. Go into the hub config

http://192.168.0.1/VmRouterStatus_configuration.asp

have a look at your downstream and upstream max traffic rate

After weeks of rubbish wifi,i had a play about with the settings today and after trying different channels i settled on channel 11 and bingo everthing working fine (happy days)

Cheers mate, any update on this?

:)

EDIT: If it's any help, I only have this issue around this time- between 6pm and 11pm. I've tried it at around 7.45am the last few mornings just to check and it's always been 104mb/10mb on any speedtest server.

After speaking to some woman in some far away distant land on VM tech support who didn't really know anything and who I could barely understand, I got accidentally cut off (probably her fault). Rang again, and fortunately got put through to someone in the UK. Yay! Scottish and a strong accent but at least he was clued up, knew what he was talking about and sorted me out. He's arranged an engineer to come between 12 and 4 on saturday to adjust my high power levels. Apparently he'll adjust something in the little grey VM box attached outside my house. The scottish guy I spoke to did say that some people do need more power levels depending on their location, but of course the engineer will sort that out anyway. He also said he could see there were a couple of problems including utilisation in my area starting on the 14th and which were resolved this morning, which exactly matches my experience. Right now though, everything seems back to normal.

Goodluck is all I can say from here. Anyway keep us updated with new information. :D

Can you do a traceroute and post your CMTS please?

NVM I found you :)

Nah it'll be fine. My pings are back down to 22 on maidenhead game servers and my download speeds on speed test sites are back up, in fact I got my highest ever this morning of 68824kbps for my 60mb/s connection. And that's with high power levels, so tbh I can't really see that these power levels are causing me any real concern, but they'll be adjusted and I'll let you know what the engineer says.

They wont be. They will most likely just put more stress on the hub making it run hotter

Everything look fine mate to be honest.

There are a few spikes in usage but nothing that should cause any issues and that would most likely be because of the school holidays

Im not trained in using all the software though so cant do too much digging.

Utilisation is OK and all KPI's are well within the acceptable levels. Your area is actually a lot better than mine is and i never have any speed issues so its very odd
