I'd be amazed if Rodwell got much game time at all. Maybe he'll surprise us and kick on like he was supposed to. Mancini himself didn't exactly seem overwhelmed. Still, maybe it's promising for ffp that City haven't just been able to go out and splurge on hazard, rvp, martinez etc they've had to be more considered.
I don't know if they've had to be, or whether they know people are still playing catchup with them.

If we sign De Rossi he will play as part of a back 3. This means we have Yaya, Milner,Rodwell and Barry for the midfield places. Wow! that's loads of players.
Rodwell is going to play but like for example Welbeck he is behind a better player so wont play every game.

As for Sinclair, we need a winger and he is cheap at 5m and brings something different to what we have.

So because he played as a defender like, 3 times due to injury, you'd spend a crapload and an immense wage on a DM to play as a defender?

Also what are you on about, if you play 3-5-2...... the 2 side players are really fullbacks, so Zab/Richards and Clichy. Meaning that effective midfield 3, will actually be Yaya, Milner, Rodwell, Barry, current De Jong, Silva, Nasri, currently Johnson, whoever else you have.

With Tevez/Aguero upfront. You won't be playing Silva as one of the wingbacks in a 3-5-2, and Tevez/Aguero/Balotelli/Dzeko upfront.

The squad doesn't suit 3-5-2 in the slightest because you have SO many attackers and 3-5-2 is really just pushing one exta defensive role into the team.

Regarding FFP, everyone knows its nothing. So I don't think our spending has been affected by it. I think its more a case of us simply not spending money for the sake of it like we have in the past.

Besides we have a very good crop of players none of which are near retiring or starting to decline.
We have no need to make wholesale changes just improvements if possible.

DM, I think our squad suits it and that we will have no problems with players rotating and so on.
Just my opinion I am not Mancini.

Does everyone hate him? I thought it was just that manyoo would want to recoup too much of the outlay they spunked on him.

It has to be Fergie screwing him, he clearly had no intention of playing him, took up an option to extend his contract, Berbatov clearly wouldn't have done so but took the party line when Utd did.

Fergie is paying the guy from what I recall WELL over 5mil a year, but making it hard for teams to get him? Has Fergie got a daughter that Berbatov banged or something?

WHole thing is very odd, it feels like one side is screwing it up somehow, Fergie screwing Berbatov, or Berbatov being a lazy git and happy to be on the bench. Trouble is again if it was Berbatov, why extend his contract rather than just let him go on a free? Makes no sense which ever way you look at it basically. I do hope someone gets him, QPR should, throwing money on everyone and everything, he could easily bring them some proper quality.

Wenger is giving a press conference at the moment and has more or less said that Alex Song is off, and more signings are possible - likely referring to Sahin.

Vermaelen confirmed as the new captain.

Seriously, this summer is starting to turn out ridiculously good for Arsenal. There is still Wenger's constant mistakes to deal with and I want to see what he actually ends up doing squad wise, if he still picks randomly poor players over top players, but we've got a pretty awesome squad, we've gotten rid of some of the weakest most mistake prone players, we've made big mistakes too though.

I'm not entirely sure how our squad will shape up though, home grown player wise we've lost out badly in the past 3 seasons. We used to have quite a few under 21's who could do a job in certain games, plenty of homegrown, we're now really really borderline. I think several players like Squillaci even if we can't sell him won't be included in the league squad as we only have 17 spots. No idea why we're buying Sahin, we should be on the phone getting Baines asap, our homegrown numbers aren't great any more and I think there are actually 3-4 players we'll be unable to register this year.

As it stands, DM, what would be your starting eleven and formation? I'm interested to see, you must have thought about it!

So according to that, when Wilshere is fit, he won't get a game? :o

i forgot about diaby :D

:D But I think Arteta will be the one doing most of the sitting back, he seemed to do that quite a bit last year, and Arsenal were a lot more solid with him there, than not there. Also it suits him I think, turning him into a bit of a deep lying playmaker.

Chesney
Sagna, kos, Verm, Gibbs/Santos(it doesn't really matter which, both rubbish :p)
Arshavin, Arteta, Santi, Wilshire, Podolski
Giroud

That's what I hope we line up with based on me assuming Wenger will stick wtih 4-5-1.

4-4-2 I'd push Podolski upfront, play Santi/Arshavin on the wings. That assumes injured people back and fit though.

What I actually expect from Wenger at the start of this season,

Chesney,
Jenks, mert, Verm, Gibbs,
Walcott, Diaby, Arteta, Santi, Podolski
Giroud.

He might go Kos but as yet he's barely played, Mert hasn't played much either but afaik has trained with the team a little longer, he might just go with Djourou as he was around all preseason... that would be a mistake.

If we do finally shift Song we really should try and buy a top notch DM and free Arteta/Wilshire up to be more attacking but we'd obviously still have them as cover for an injury. Also has looked like we've tried to shift Arshavin for the past year or so and all this transfer window. Great player, 10 goals 18 assists, but because sometimes he ghosts around appearing to not try to hard(appearing is the key thing here) fans turned on him.
