Hi guys I was just wondering what I should get for gaming the 965be or the 960t for my gaming pc.

I can get them for about the same price so just whats better for gaming not bothered about anything else and also my motherboard is a m4n98tdevo

960T obviously. It is the same as the 965, clocked slower i think, but with mroe cores. And since they're BE you can overclock them pretty easily.

Before making a suggestion I think it would be a good idea to let us know what you currently have - otherwise, as has already happened, people jump to silly conclusions and make half-cocked recommendations.

In any event, I wouldn't get either. The retail on both those is the best part of 100 quid by the time you have paid for delivery. Save your money for when you can get a new board as well and get out of AMD, 100 quid is too much to pay for a product which barely holds up against a 100 quid sandybridge i3. The difference being that one solution will give you a decent upgrade path and the other will never be anything more than a polished turd.

But without knowing what you already have it's hard to guage whether it's even an upgrade worth the money.

Thanks for the replies guys I was unsure that it was better because the clock speed was lower.

After listening to your recommendation I will definetely get the 960t.

Dirty ganker,
I am currently using:
8gb 1600mhz kingston ram
m4n98td evo motherboard
amd 6790 (replacing tonight)
athlon 455 (replacing tonight)
I can't afford to move over to the i5 as I only have £300 to spend max and £100 will be going on processor and £200 on graphics.

You don't need to get an i5, even an i3 is comparible.

Thanks for your advice but I already have a decent motherboard and don't want to spend £200 on an i3 and motherboard when I can get a 960t for £100.

Not bothered about having top end just enough to play the latest games on high setting 1080p

If I did change over to intel it wouldn't be for the i3

I just got the 960t does anyone know of a good overclocking guide?

I have done a bit on my athlon so roughly know what I am doing but would prefer a nice guide.

Thanks :)

I have the same processor (for another 2 or 3 months anyway) and can do 3.5ghz @ 6core - CPU/Nb is currently 2400.

I'll be buying water cooling next week and will see if I can hit 4ghz stable...Then it's Ivy Bridge for me.

Did you have to change the voltage to get those speeds?

Hey guys might sound like a complete noob question but do I have to run in the processor for a bit before I start overclocking?

Would be best to, just to check it's fine at stock. Be sure to check the load temps as well, so you know how much of a temp headroom you have.

Yup, double check that its running at happy temperatures. Throw something intense like Prime95 at it for a bit, and keep an eye on temps. If they're high already, consider getting a new CPU cooler or improving case airflow before you overclock it.
