***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

So, what's the state of play with flashing ROMs on this? Do I need to flash any boot image like the One X, or can I just shove the new ROM on the phone and flash via CWM?

Doesn't look like there is a way to get Sky Go working on a rooted version of the leaked JB update, unless I'm missing it?

On a related note, this JB leak is solid. No issue so far.

Howdy all,

With Jelly Bean now here, I'm at the point where Android looks like a fantastic option. Mainly the smoothness and the design tweaks, but I'm hugely fussy when it comes to that!

So now I'm left with several choices. I'd rather avoid the HTC One X, due to both the display flex issues (I haven't come across a device in any store that doesn't have it yet), as well as Sense, which is still as bloated as ever.

That leaves me with two choices, frankly. The Galaxy Nexus, and the S3. Not going to list the pros and cons as they're pretty obvious, but what have you guys thought moving from the GNex to the S3? Worthy upgrade? Worth noting that with the S3 I'd root it and run CM/AOKP, as I don't like TouchWiz.

Money's not an issue, but of course, if the GNex is going to perform well for the next two years, I'd probably pick it over the S3 and save the money.

The S3 is unquestionably worth it, unless you don't care about the battery life, storage and camera. The Nexus internals are also quite out of date now so I'd be slightly concerned when it comes to future-proofing. (I have both phones).

True, it's just a case of how far can you really push the GNex hardware. If it's so out of date, then I wouldn't bother :) Guess it's time to consider the S3...

Any rumours of price reductions coming closer to the iPhone 5 launch? I'm sure I heard something, but I haven't kept up with Android for a while now!

They might be considered out of date but I never had an performance issues. In fact Jelly Bean is running faster and smoother than anything the S3 has to offer right now. Also another big plus is the GN development community is still very active due to it being an official google device.

But storage is an issue and if money is not an issue, then go with the S3, I have :D

PS. I'm looking forward to the next Nexus device.

A handful of things are smoother, but it is in no way faster.

On the OneX CWM can't flash the boot partition with s-on, there is no such restriction on the S3 so as you said you just flash from CWM.

Bloody fantastic my screen glass is cracked right at the very bottom near the back button. Its just a small hairline crack but its really annoyed me.

Going to have a look into getting the phone repaired if the crack happens to get any worse., does anyone have any recommendations of where to go? Would carphone warehouse be able to get it fixed? I know I'll have to pay for it

Cheers. I like the sound of that. So, basically, I can download and flash new ROMs while out and about - no need to connect to a computer?

Yes, I'm forever flashing new roms whilst at work or out shopping etc. Pick one download it reboot into recovery +cwm) then play around. If it doesn't work out or fails to deliver I simply go back to recovery and restore my previous rom

That's my night shifts sorted then! :D
