Black ops 2 Multiplayer Reveal

Not sure about 64 man servers. There will however be:

- lean
- adjustable FOV
- higher res textures
- ranked dedicated servers
- directx 11 support

This is nothing new and the features highlighted have been in CoD games previously.

The problem is the kids on the consoles really enjoy the kill streaks, perks, small arena maps and other gimmicks that have been introduced since Modern Warfare 1 and that is what they know CoD for so its what they want including.

Now the real gamers on pc know what CoD really was, bigger maps, no side balancing by giving all weapons to each side, no silly perks or kill streaks.

Sadly many have accepted CoD is a dead series as far as good pc gaming is concerned and many have swapped over to other games like BF3.

If that was a trailer to interest people to be honest it looks just like what the whole Modern Warfare part of the series has become, another update but nothing really substantial like many have said.

MW3 didn't have ranked dedicated servers. Anyway I wasn't listing features new to the series, I was listing features exclusive to the PC version, in response to someone elses post.

You seem to want Blops 2 to emulate the early CoDs in simplicity.... yet you complain that it doesn't add anything really substantial. Precisely what "substance" do you want them to put in?

for those asking for new features and does it have this and that in this no it will be a tweaked bops with a few different ideas.

the new engine and everything else is next november. supposed to be the unreal 4 engine and probably the launch game for the new xbox. so all those saying cod is lost it isnt its just isn't here now ;)

Different game types for multiplayer would be welcomed. I did enjoy the gun master in MW2 and now BF3 but I still think it should have more serious game types like a base assault like UO introduced that was very popular. Search and Destroy is a good game type but because of the smaller maps it's over too quick and no real chance of tactics.

Keep weapons to the appropriate sides, the reason the older CoDs were better is teams were different on weapons but balanced correctly. I like the fact they put camo's in but they should have given bigger maps to make them effective, with the smaller arena maps there effectiveness can't be used.

I'd like to see them remove .....

everything that makes the modern COD game what it is.

So you're basically asking for a game that just doesn't and will not exist.

So why bother posting and complaining in a COD thread asking for a game you know won't happen,

Go back to storylines based on real events. That way the writers can focus on characters and format rather than the general plot.

Vastly improve the sound design. Devs should take a leaf out of the Half Life 2 and Battlefield 3 books.

Stop making MP maps which feel like a mix between those big play centres that kids go to and a paintballing venue.

Stop making MP with this quick-fix, protein shake mentality and focus on the core player experience rather perks, streaks and DLC.

Stop making SP as a non-stop explosion bonanza. Set pieces are great, but they're far more effective when you build up to them. Use the time saved developing big bangs to develop more subtle and engrossing SP gameplay.

Build a game to deliver to PC with the intention to port onto console, rather than the other way around.

Same thing as above, basically take away everything that makes cod what it is today ?

Given that COD is currently the best selling game franchise of all time, why on earth would they change it, just to make it appeal to the small bunch of unhappy ex COD 1 / COD 2 gamers ?

Because if we didn't have cod 1/2 you simply wouldn't have black ops 2! The original game formula worked and made the series what it is today. Many of the long term cod players will agree cod 2 and 4 was the best in the series then it went downhill.

Modern warfare was the first across all platforms and it took off because it was already a reputable game. After that the sheep keep on buying the same rehashed thing over and over which made it into the biggest selling game because the sheep are blinkered.

It's funny because your here defending the game oblivious to what will eventually happen to the series. Look at the C+C series, it was a great series that was brought out rehashed so many times as a cash cow and not a patch of its glory.

surely if all the games subsequent to CoD4 are "rehashed" then they are all just as good (when looked at individually) as CoD4??

How has it gone downhill? (the community clearly has, but I'm talking about the game itself)

Is it true the PC version has a different Dev team to the console versions? If true, that's a great move by Treyarch. I think Treyarch cares more about the players than the Modern Warfare Dev team(s).

**** call of duty and **** activision. Just look at the effort people like SOE are putting into Planetside 2 and then compare to this horse **** that probably took 4 weeks to make.

I'd rather not. The hole on the disc isn't very big on the disc and I don't want to risk breaking it by making it larger. As for Activision, they have a lot of staff with most of them male. The chances of finding a looker are low :(.

lol just deciding on the balance changes they've made would have taken 4 weeks.

Yes the games not planetside 2, and yes its still largely the same as the previous game.

But then again, isn't planetside 2 just the same as planetside 1 ? flying around in vehicles, shooting each other capping bases ?

After all, if you changed the game too much, it wouldn't be COD anymore. Because you can bet if they messed with planetside too much and started taking stuff away the fans from PS1 liked, you can bet they'd all scream like mad. SOE and Treyarch both know you don't **** off your fanbase by removing stuff they expect to see from your next game.

As someone whos played all the COD games I will probably end up getting this, cant help but feel its being milked and i really hope the maps are better than MW3. Im not sure how you can compare BF3 and COD tho they are 2 very different games. That said I enjoyed BF3 a lot more than MW3.

Before you had mods made for the game such as the PAM mod which was made for competitive play. Before like in CounterStrike you had leagues and ladders that teams and clans played in making CoD a very good game for competitive play. After cod4 they started removing the features like dedicated servers, mod compilers and map editors forcing the competitive play side out of the game which many people really enjoyed. Then all we was left with was the run and gun style which put many including myself off the series.

The moder warfare aspect is good but the whole kill streak bonus for me makes it feel childish and for the console kids.

Another thing I really enjoy is the zombies. World of war was great with all the custom zombie maps and 3 other team mates but the lack of a map editor made the few maps in Black Ops boring quite quickly.

Yep it's confirmed. I won't be getting it on PC personally, but I'm very happy to hear they're actually putting some modicum of effort into the PC version, since Blops1 and MW3 were virtually unplayable on PC at release and were deservedly hated by the PC crowd. The games were good (IMO) on console but sucked balls on PC so hopefully Blops 2 will please PC players and partially repair the reputation of the CoD franchise.

Blops 2 has leagues and ladders and ****loads of support for competetive play and tournaments.

Map editor and mods would be pretty awesome though, I can see why their removal would suck.

THis looks and sounds the exact same to the past three CoDs

The difference between this and previous CoD games looks similar or greater than the difference between SC2 and BW, or Halo 3 and Reach, or the C&C games, or the Total War series, or in fact any big selling series I can think of. The only reason people go on about CoD specifically is because it's a yearly release.

I disagree Sheep.

The difference between BW -> SC2 was much greater than the difference between CoD4 - BlOps2

Also there is no support for competitive play in any of the games past CoD4.

No dedicated servers? No competitive play. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but it's nowhere near as good as CoD4 was for it.

BW -> SC2

- graphics update
- easier control (no 12 unit limit, autoclumping etc)
- bnet 0.2 (actually worse than 1.0)
- few new/changed units but many remain the same
- new maps

The equivalent in CoD to new units is new guns, perks, attachments, maps and killstreaks, all of which will be present in Blops 2 (and in greater proportion that in SC2). Blops 2 obviously also brings new maps.

The interface and UI will be improved from the previous game, unlike the downgrade which occured in SC2.

The graphics will also be updated. Obviously not on the same scale as the move from BW to SC2 but bear in mind there were 12 years between those games and only 1 year since the last CoD (2 since Blops 1), plus the consoles are still the same hardware so that's fair enough.

Tournaments and team practice can be done on LAN (because CoD actually supports it unlike, oh yeah, SC2). P2P is good enough for the casuals.

I'm not dissing on starcraft here, i love that game (no matter how much i rage at it) all i'm trying to point out is the stupidity in most people's criticisms of the CoD franchise when they are happy to lap up similar stuff in other franchises. They don't hate CoD cos it's bad they hate CoD because it's CoD.

It's equivalent in principle to racism and other bigotry though obviously trivial in nature.

If you can't see how stupid comparing an RTS and an FPS is then anybody's wisdom is lost on you. Also SC2 didn't just add units, it took away units also in the name of balance.

An FPS is about raw twitch, reactions, and gun control. Anything added to that in terms of kill-streaks, perks, and attached grenade launchers detracts from the game-play and skill. When I play a recent CoD game it's all about who strategically uses their kill-streaks at the right time to get 8 kills with a chopper gunner or something. It's boring and skill-less the AK shoots like a re-skinned M4, there's not enough difference between guns, they all shoot straight down the sight.

Back in CoD2 days each gun had waaay more character, they felt and handled completely differently. Also the maps are terrible these days.

The much better comparison to make is bloat-ware that nobody likes on mobile phones and such, nobody likes bloat-ware. Perks, kill-streaks, skins, attachments and the like are all just bloat-ware covering over the poor FPS underneath.

I appreciate there's no arguing with MW3 fans, and you guys seem to enjoy it. Let's all agree to disagree and leave you guys to enjoy your game. :)
