***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I own both the Galaxy S 3 and the One X. I had the One X first and liked it but ultimately it's lacking in a few key areas. Nexus has highlighted them above.

There's no doubt from me at least that the S3 is a considerably better phone, it's pretty much better in every possible way, and the battery life is roughly 30/40% better, which is quite a big difference (depending on what you do, of course).

In your position it's probably wise to wait a few weeks, check out the new iPhone and then decide. If you still aren't sure then there should be more phones out after that, the new Nexus phone for example.

If you think the blue S3 looks good, there's almost zero reason not to get one. It ticks all of the boxes, it's the best phone.

The pebble blue S3 looks good, and is the one I'd be going for. Would be installing a stock JB ROM, whether that be CM or another.

You wouldn't be running a stable stock JB Rom for a while. There is a memory leak issue, which requires a reboot to fix. This only affects the S3 Exynos processor.

From what you have just said there, I would suggest getting the GS 3 then :) Or possibly just waiting for the iphone 5 :o :p and then deciding between it and the GS 3 OR waiting for the new nexus(s) devices around November time :p (can expect them to have similar hardware to the GS 3 and X and S)

The only issues that I am aware off, which the majority of people seem to be facing with the X is poor battery life (supposedly this has improved a lot with the latest update, but nothing seems to be 100% confirmed either, I don't think it will be any where near the GS 3 battery life though either way due to a less efficient chip, smaller battery and in some situations the screen is a big drainer compared to SAMOLED etc.)

Not so much the software, more just the hardware. The software is just the same as every other android phone really, just a different theme throughout with some additional features and modded stock apps. I personally don't like touchwiz at all, but the tweaks like the smart alert, smart stay, brightness slider in the notification bar and smart status bar (notification bar shows when you drag your finger down at the top when in a full screen app) are very useful, although as said the majority of these features have already been ported over to apps. The software is very well optimized regarding codecs/media playback and performance etc. Stock android is very minimal and clean compared to all the other skins and in some areas it won't be as good as sense and touchwiz i.e. the gallery, calendar, dialer, camera etc.

Best thing to do is stick with a touchwiz based ROM and just flash an ICS theme, therefore you have the best of both worlds then. Plus if you don't like certain apps then you can just install one of the many 3rd party apps on the market and disable/remove the stock app.

Problem is that right now I'm phoneless, and it's a pain. Simply relying on iMessage at the moment. The new Nexus phones will likely offer a similar package to the S3, which would make things easier, but I can't really wait that long. The 5, I believe, won't really bring much to the table - my issue with iOS isn't with features, more with Apple being unnecessarily restrictive. It's still a more polished package but Android is just easier.

The memory leak issue is a good point, smokedog.

Anddd my first problem with Omega v14, flash won't work at all. Tried it on 3 different browsers and they all stop responding. :(

Edit : Suppose it is a 'test' ROM as they say on XDA, will go back to 12 for now.

JB doesn't support flash anymore, if what I read is correct.

All the leaked Sammy JB roms are pre-release and are buggy.

On Omega 13 and Siyah 1.5 rc1 and its sooooo smooth. Also using Ablack HD theme and the plain black screen looks nice, to me anyway :)

Used my phone case free this morning, S3 is so much more ergonomic to hold and use compared to any other smartphone out there, so nice in the hand. You forget after using a case for so long :p

Good to see that you’re taking it and having a good stroke. I hear it works wonders for some. :p

JB is looking good, like the new previews in notification bar

Some issues with transparancy of widgets, when scrolling with Apex they are not transparent as you move screens but change back when you stop

Other than a few FCs and the other know bugs (s-note) its looking on track

I've been using Paranoid Android since the Hydrogen ICS debacle on the S2. Jumped straight in with PA on my S3 after trying a few others, but PA just has everything I need in terms of customisation. I love being able to have tablet/phablet versions of apps and dpi per app settings. Hopefully there will be a JB version out soon with the memory leak fixed, but I'm used to rebooting daily now.

You're spot on mrk! I took my SGP case off as I have just bought a Tech 21 slip case for my S3 and I forgot how slim it is without the case and it's definitely a joy to hold sans a case! :)

I hope its not the final one, even Wanam's Rom using the latest leak is labelled as unstable.
WanamLite XXDLH4 V3.0.RC1 (Jelly Bean-Unstable)

And this is put down to being solely the JB update that is causing it? Could it not be down to the use of a custom ROM itself which quite a lot of them have problems initially irrespective of it being based on an official OEM Rom....
