Again how many times does one have to point out the fact that that people who want to burn down houses are the people who have missunderstood what religion teaches them?!?

There are many people who believe in religion and they do not want to burn down houses or skin people alive? (Unless you are predator ;))

Dont put everyone in the same pot. In every society/culture/religion there will be idiots.

I'm most certainly not putting everyone in the same pot, I addressed that in my second post in this thread. Yes, there are many who believe in religion who don't want to burn down houses over destroyed pages, as has been acknowledged, but this topic is about the people who interpret blasphemy differently to you. They believe their interpretation is just as correct as you believe yours is, and they would no doubt think you're the one who's misunderstood what the religion teaches.

So.. without religion, without the Quran existing, without blasphemy, you STILL think they would be burning down houses and persecuting children over a few destroyed pages?

Your next post is somewhat ironic.

which era are you referring to? Anyway I don't know about blasphemy laws in Islam, whether there are some or whatever the punishment is.

I'm so glad I live in the U.K. ;)

Indeed. The more I read about Korea, China, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, South America, the USA to name a few, I more grateful and glad I am that I was born and raised in the UK.

When you look at the juxtaposition we have here, we have it so good it's unreal.

But you have to wait a while to get your crocked knee looked at and you almost had to pay tax on pasties .

I prefer to discus:

Lulwut?

Blatant trolling surely? To criticise a country is fine. To make a sweeping (and wrong) generalisation that country and religion is "stupid" makes you look stupid.

It's pretty common to judge a country by it's laws, the actions of it's people and how it goes about these things.

I think 'Backwards country' applies to this situation. If you take it as a comment on the actions of it's people and the laws at which it is upholding.

Regardless, these mobs and laws are disgusting facts about many Muslim countries. While that doesn't absolve us of our disgusting facts, it's important that we open both of them to criticism.

As for religion, they're all crazy as far as I'm concerned. But you have a minority (and sometimes majority) who use it to commit horrendous acts. Tolerance only goes (or at least should) so far. Religion is an enabler, it turns normally moral men and women into, pardon the term, demons. Of course it would be ludicrous to say that there would be world peace if there was no religion, but we would be a damn sight closer. No question.

You can still express opinion whilst maintaining an element of respect - disagree agreeably. Rather than say this religion is stupid, why not saying something along the lines of "I disagree with some of the views this religion possesses because...." ?

That's all I'm going to say, just think before you post please in order to avoid offending someone else on here.

Maccy, you know what happens in religious threads. They ALWAYS get trolled.

Personally I think no religion threads should be allowed. :)

Censorship is a bad thing. As long as there's a good amount of civilized discussion/argument, then it should stay. While I'm all for free speech, when it comes to the forums, there are obviously certain rules to be adhered to - and if you can't put forward reasoned discussion, then you should refrain from posting, or face the consequences of moderation.

Which is what happened when the OP made a thread lambasting an entire country and its people for the actions of a few idiots out there.

But as per usual, anytime a religious thread or anything to do with islam/muslims pops up here...you get the usual idiots trolling.

Personally this thread should have been closed soon as the OP made his stupid ignorant remark.

Perhaps. But if people didn't respond to the trolls, the thread wouldn't have reached page 4. Both have a bit of responsibility in carrying on the thread.

Besides, he's made an opinion, and asked people to discuss the story. Perhaps he could have made a bit more effort to explain his views, but he didn't.

As for idiots trolling, that's really a matter of perspective. It does depend on what you consider to be trolling. People posting a very controversial view can sometimes be viewed as trolling, while sometimes not, people carrying on an obviously fallacious argument could be considered trolling, other times not. Most people on the forum have from time to time, posted a comment with very little to back it up, posting-and-running springs to mind.

I don't think he's trolling so much as just posting a bad thread. He's entitled to hold his opinions certainly, but as he didn't elaborate either people ignore his opinion and enter into the discussion, or they get riled up by other people's opinions.

All in all, it's a bad OP, but the discussion is valid. The opinion of "Pakistan is a backwards country and Islam is a backwards religion" is a valid one, however it would have been better if he had said "Pakistan is a backwards country and Islam is a backwards religion because" and then listed the numerous facts and reasons.

I agree but when there are too many trolls around what can you do apart from ban them OR stop threads been made.

The events described in the OP are truly mind-boggling, bizarre people.

Correct.

I can't believe there are people here defending Pakistan lol, it is regarded as one of the most dangerous places in the world and those of you here defending it, if you were there you'd be kidnapped within a day and either have your head removed or your family would be paying a ransom.
