Forums Similar to OCUK?

The only similar forums that are roughly the same or smaller in size that i know of are competitors. If you go to the next 'step up' with things like AVForums then for me at least the 'community spirit' is lost, and if you run into the same person often enough to start to get to know them then odds are they're already a 'forum celebrity'. Besides, i don't think the whole standard forum layout lends itself well to that many people. Things are lost too easily.

I know a lot of people have gripes with it, some quite rightly so, but the main option that springs to mind for me is Reddit. We have quite a similar demographic (albeit Reddit is a lot more liberal), you'll certainly find the range of subjects and if you use the smaller subreddits then you will get a community feel to it. Downsides? Well, it isn't a forum for starters. The upvote/downvote system is theoretically (and... somewhat practically) a good way to sort through good and bad content, but it doesn't lend itself too well to long discussions, especially on front page submissions.

Similar forums......Outside of......OcUK??

Are you absolutely mad?

Wash your mouth out with soap right this instant :)

used to hang out on http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/

but got banned a few times for tearing into some of the asshats on there, then had a run in with Vapor (Mod) and was permabanned.

best thing that happened really,

but to be honest i use it read only now, for up to date news on tech/NDA stuff etc

That's exactly where I was about to recommend.

You get a lot of help and good advice on www.xtremesystems.org but it comes without the social fun with more of a focus on tech. It can be a little serious but I like it a lot for any questions.

It's quite difficult to get advanced help on here, unless you state something to criticise, then they all creep out of the woodwork. Gets a little frustrating having justifying every minor component against a pack of houds, but it's easily ignored. And I'm no innocent, flame free victim either.

www.HardForums.com is also a popular favourite with the lads at work.

mumsnet is awesome and I won't hear a bad word said about it

AIBU is probably my favourite sub-forum. Boy, when they turn on one of their own things get very messy.

It's glorious :D
