960t or 965be

Would be best to, just to check it's fine at stock. Be sure to check the load temps as well, so you know how much of a temp headroom you have.

Yup, double check that its running at happy temperatures. Throw something intense like Prime95 at it for a bit, and keep an eye on temps. If they're high already, consider getting a new CPU cooler or improving case airflow before you overclock it.

Ok thanks guys,

I have a decent case (coolermaster scout) and the cpu cooler is half decent (artic freezer 7)

I will see how it goes for a few days before I change anything :)

960T is a great chip, mine will hit 4.7GHz on air with all 6 cores unlocked.

I currently run it at 4GHz 1.375v and turbo at 4.5GHz. Cool 'n Quiet set to 1GHz.

WOW that's impresive,

I read somewhere that I should turn off the turbo when I unlock cores and also I read that I should disable cool and quite when over clocking.

Is there any particular circumstances where I shouldn't use the turbo or cool and quiet?

My board is the m4n98tdevo if that makes a difference.

Just got a rig set up with the 960T - even with a pretty ancient AM2 micro-ATX motherboard, got it Prime95 stable at 3.4GHz without even trying, on the stock cooler.

Might push for more, but just getting a ~10% boost on stock is nice.

just to give you some comparrision although not same cpu , i'm running the 965be @ 3.8 ghz using stock cpu cooler... when i used the amd cpu overdrive utility it maxed out at 4.1 ghz .... so kept it safe at 3.8 id expect to get more if i changed cpu cooler . will add thats without fiddling with voltmods

yeah but what was the actual v-core? (probably standard its 1.400-1.45v), and what are your core temps at 100% load on prime after 10 mins?

Was your cpu-nb overclocked?

960T obviously. It is the same as the 965, clocked slower i think, but with mroe cores. And since they're BE you can overclock them pretty easily.

So, it's the same as the 965, except it's not? ;)
960T's a thuban core, better IMC and 4/6 cores.

965's a deneb.

There's no way in hell your 960T is doing 4.7GHZ on air with all 6 cores enabled.
Unless you mean just for a CPUZ?

So I been overclocking my 960t thuban here is what I done let me know if you think I should change anything.

3.8 cpu 1.4v
2600 northbridge 1.2v
2000 ht stock voltage
My ram is clocked at 1600 888/24 (kingston hyper x) 8gb

Does this sound about right for gaming on my 660ti or should I push it a bit harder?

Also I tried the core unlock on my asus board m4n98tdevo using unleash mode but had strange results, when booting it told me "all 4 cores unlocked" and in windows was unstable until I upped the voltage.
But at no point in windows or the bios did I see the extra cores, it was still just a 4 core but it still wanted extra voltage to run.

I have now turned off the unleash mode core unlocker but if anyone has an idea as to why the extra cores are not showing please let me know. I checked my bios and they are on the latest version.

It was a suicide run but I ran Cinebench with all 6 cores.

Ran for many days at 4.4GHz with all 6 cores but as I leave my machine on for ~15 hours a day and I mostly do desktop 'stuff' that kind of power, heat and juice usage was OTT.

Settled at 4GHz but even that's wasted...

Stability.

If you can keep it stable then there's no reason not to use the extra functions, however lots of people struggle to overclock AND turbo for obvious reasons.

I found my max stable and used that as my turbo and stepped back to a more suitable daily speed.

I do have a very solid motherboard (Asus Sabbertooth) and gold Bequiet! PSU which helps of course.

Thanks mine seems to be getting quite hot when gaming at 3.8 (50c max) so I guess I can't really go any higher until I add a couple more case fans.

I think topping out at around 50'c is normal.

Mine idles low 30's but will hit 50 after sustained heavy use (games).

Bleek, what bios are you using to get that overclock on your Phenom?

I have noticed the newer bios being more tailored towards FX on the Sabertooth and so interested in what you've found best for the Phenom.

To be honest I don't know, it's on the shipped BIOS - I'll take a look later for you.
