Apple becomes most valuable firm of all time

They are only stylish because you have been told its stylish so many times you buy into it and want a little bit of that perceived style to rub off onto you and your humdrum mundane lifestyle.

I've compared Macbook to other non Apple laptops on the market and Macbook is definitely more stylish. Same goes for the iPod, iPad etc. For the sake of argument in style, what other computer company goes as far as sourcing the most aesthetically pleasing type of screw for us in their products? Only Apple do that, and it's only a bloody screw for crying out loud.

However before someone misquotes me, what I'm not saying is non-Apple products are not stylish, because some of them are - however a vast majority aren't.

Apple has become the most valuable company of all time – surpassing a record set by Microsoft in 1999.

Shares in the tech giant hit a high of $664.75 in Monday morning trading, valuing the company at over $619bn. The price topped the $618.9bn Microsoft achieved in December 1999.

$618.9bn by todays monitary standards is more like $1000bn

Apply may have the biggest value but its down to economics - inflation.

Threads fails to deliver anything substantial.

Bucket in Uganda at one point cost 10x that in Uganda Dollars. That bucket company must be in a totally different league...

Theophany tends to disagree. :p

For the same price they are. Ultrabooks are pretty sexy. Obviously some cheapo dell isn't going to look as good.

The problem with most laptops that aren't macs, is the trackpad. FingerWorks was probably Apples best acquisition. No other trackpad compares.

AAPL reached the highest market cap of any company in history.

IBM wasn't worth $620m in 1967. MSFT wasn't worth $620m in 1999.

Because "highest market capitalisation" is different from "most valuable". For "most valuable" you would need to figure in inflation. To compare like with like you need to adjust for inflation.

If you taken into account the inflation since 1999, the valuation of Microsoft back then would be $851M now.

always one ! xD

Good for apple doesn't change my opinion of their products or their fan boys but I'm glad that slave labour in china is paying off for them. hurr hurr >.<

Slave labour?
Also where do you think all the components for what ever devices you own are from? That's right same factories more than likely.

There's always two ways to measure comparatively and absolute.
Apple have the highest figure ever, regardless of the other figure.

Are you trying to say that Apple has risen to the same level as "religion" and that as such that $0.2bn is the all singing all dancing holy grail of Apple awesomeness??

*sigh*

Cute comment, but I've no love for Apple. Try the guy whose forum nick is OSX spelt phonetically. ;)

Because "highest market capitalisation" is different from "most valuable".

Could not agree more.

For "most valuable" you would need to figure in inflation. To compare like with like you need to adjust for inflation.

For most valuable you look at much more than market capitalisation. You look at P/E, trading volume, balance sheet, sales, market share, product range, etc. Hence why EA's valuation is closer to $10bn than its $4bn market cap.

Market cap is not a measure of a company's value, merely the theoretical cost of buying every share at the current market rate (which could not be done). Given that market capitalisation is driven by current market conditions and is driven by share trading, I don't see the point in comparing intra-day share prices to inflation-adjusted prices. For market cap to be a relevant measure of a company's value, then the market has to be close to or be perfectly efficient. It is not.

I no longer own any Apple products, and can't imagine ever owning one again, but whilst they are style over substance, how many people on this forum post in the various watch threads about owing an expensive watch that looks very nice but has the same functions as a cheap Casio digital?

Each to their own I suppose.

Apple worked hard for this.

Everyone saying how crap the products are but they look nice.... Yet they are the biggest seller... YAWN.

You guys have to chill out a little. I have the iMac 27inch... Always wanted one, and was lucky enough to get one for a present. Yes, the PC performs better for certain things, but you cant deny if you got offered one, you wouldnt keep it ;)
