AMD Catalyst 12.8 (8.982.0 July 27) AMD Official WHQL

Welcome aboard JD, you just joined the cool kids club. :p

12.8 driver with 12.7cap 3 is the driver set you want. Uber performance in bf3 for 7970 with this driver. They've really nailed it and finally cracked that code what gimped aa on AMD cards.

haha :D At last, high five'd wherever I may go by good looking people with fabulous lives. I've mostly been with ATI/AMD with my only Nvidia cards being 7600GT, 8800GTX and the GTX 670 I'm sending back. I'm happy with the performance of the GTX 670, it's just that I've been really blown away with the 7970 reviews since after the 12.7 Beta driver release. Even though I was happy at the performance, incredibly happy about the little noise I can hear, my mind was imagining whispers of "traitor" or "Jen-Hsun Huang fanboi" as well as a nightmare about a green screen of death (jokes). So I gave in. Thank you Lt.Matt, yer a star ;).

You had to quote him so I read it?. Rusty is right. You git!.

Rusty since I didn't have a choice to read what you've said I'll reply. If you comprehended what I wrote, you'd see it was to the mods, not to you, I reported your first attack on coherency towards another member but when I seen the second personal attack in the same thread towards the same member I was angered enough about it to make sure your actions were highlighted. I have many international friends that speak English well and I have many that struggle but when they apologise to me for their inconsistencies I encourage them that it's amazing that they have picked up a second language so they can speak to more people. We in the UK are not usually multilingual so if anything, they are to be commended if they are trying to learn the language we speak. They don't need some person ridiculing them for it. How many different languages can you speak and would you find it totally acceptable that in a middle of a debate that the person would use other tactics to bring you down, like erm, your secondary language compared to a national of the country that you are debating with?.

I don't care if you gave away a free code. It was free?. I also popped into that thread to say that it was nice of you to do it and not to include me in the giveaway. I just gave my friend a 6950 for nothing that I paid for brand new and I could still get about £90-£100. That doesn't explain why you were so quick to ridicule someone due to what you believed to be, a language barrier. Regardless of you giving away a free code, that doesn't give you the right to treat people like that.

When you get your card and decide to overclock, visit my thread here. :)

Despite initial concerns in the thread it works wonderfully and is a more reliable method than afterburner's unofficial overclock method.

Let us know how it clocks. I can reach 1200core, it really makes mince meat of games at that speed.

I'll give it a try. I used AB with my 6950 flashed to 6970 but I got fed up of using it and just used the RacerX CCC registry change to give me more headroom in Core and Memory in CCC which keeps powerplay working. Does that still work?.

The only thing I lost using the CCC registry change was voltage control as I had in AfterBurner. I used "Radeon Bios Editor" (RBE) to set my volts from 1.100v (stock 6950) (1.175v stock 6970) so I raised it to 1.2v as I usualy sat between 920-950Mhz on the core for gaming and up to 1Ghz for benchmarking.

I do notice the flicker and after reading your thread rather than skimming I'm actually interested in trying this so I'll do it as I've done it so many other ways with older AMD cards. Again LT.Matt, thank you ;). I really hope I can hit 1200Mhz.

The code giveaway was an example not the be all and end all.

Everything else you said was a repeat of what you already said so I don't know why you feel the need to repeat yourself.

I didn't get an infraction (yet!) so I'm sorry you wasted your time. You can now proceed to exit the thread :).

If you felt so 'angered' over it then the best thing to do would have been to trust a moderator but no you decided to post something completely tangential to this thread and basically do the same thing that I've allegedly done. Yes you've definitely taken the moral high ground there.

3 7970 cards in BF3 @ 1080p is CPU limited, its not down to the drivers.

In 1080p Ultra, they will push about 35-45% utilisation each.

3 7970 cards in 1440p works rather better.

Go Eyefinity! :)

Guy above says he's getting 95% utilisation in BF3 MP on 3 cards.....how?

To be fair 7970 crossfire is a bit overkill for 1080p :D

Not at all, It still can't do 120hz constantly, and utilisation is not perfect either.

It can do 120 hz constantly (this comes from the monitor). It can't do 120 FPS constantly but it's not really as big a thing as is made out :)

Yeah with this method you get to use aftburner, unlocked clock limits and powerplay properly all in one.

I had xfire 6950 before and i was using the unofficial method which meant the cards didnt always clock down properly hence i could never leave my pc on overnight as it would just drink electricity.

I can do that now and be safe in the knowledge the 7970 is only using 3watt of power at idle.

You can hit high utilisation figures by going multi-display or 1600p.

Retina displays will be the killer application for 3/4 card rigs.....we wait ...

....We also wait for Haswell....

Apart from lower power and noise, I really don't know what else a die shrunk 7970 is going to give us without more CPU performance per clock.

120 Hz != 120 FPS

The ultimate smoothness of course comes from running 120 constant but the real difference between 60 and 120 Hz comes from the monitor side of it.

What 2 **** does 120 hz got to do with 120 fps ?? Its like saying My washing mashine can do 120 spins a minute and my cooker can do 120c no problems oO.

Anyway I will try that 12.7 cap 3 today on my bf3. Not sure if i will gain anything cos i play without AA :P

Care to explain?

Care to explain what? It's explained in the post you've quoted lol.

This.

I don't know if you were confused by my used of != CyberCrow.

!= means not equal to. Sorry for sounding patronising if you already know that!

The CAPS are integrated into the latest drivers right? Is there a need to bother with 12.7 CAP 3 if you don't have the games it affects, as all previous CAPS will be in the latest driver 12.8?
