Popped up to Tesco for lunch and some woman reversed out and caught the rear of my bumper as i passed her bay .

She was going to drive off but ran after her and stopped her .

She was a young eastern European women driving a Passat Diesel . Now i got her details and reg and she muttered in broken English about paying cash as she was a new driver .

I popped into my local bodywork guy and he quoted £100 to respray the bumper .

Now given this is my £700 mondeo that i use to go to work and back i really dont care about the damage (3inch by 2inch scrape) . But its the principle of the thing .

I txted her the other day and explained it would be £100 if she wanted to avoid the insurance route and nothing.... So txted again tonight and explained if she did not call or txt i would take it via insurance .

Is it worth it ? I dont care about the damage but i dont see why she should get away with it . Car is insured (although not sure she is )

What should i do ?

Have you tried calling/speaking to her?

Check her reg on Askmid.com, might give you an idea where it might go. (though it won't prove if she is insured personally, just the car.

You may get your £100 from her, you may not.

At least it was a £700 Mundano rather than an F10 M5 (nice if you had one I'm sure!)

The fact she was driving off and you had to chase her is a little telling...

Good luck.

well car shows up in askmid as insured (first thing i checked when i got home) phone was expensive but as you say could be payg sim .

I have a witness (a work mate who was also up for lunch but was leaving (i was unaware he was there)

What my question is really am i gonna stuff myself by putting in a claim given hire car costs and fixing the damage will be more than the car is worth

As annoying as it is, £100 is not worth claiming for. Your excess is probably more than that and you have no idea whether they will be able to recover the money from her. You'll also have an accident recorded against you even if they do recover it.

She was a young eastern European women

Was she fit?

Serious note though, was she polish? I'm going to make a sweeping statement and say many of them are fairly bad drivers. This comes from 6 visits to poland in the last 3 years and also having some polish family. Bloody impatient lot :)

No, it really isn't worth the hassle of going through insurance. You're quotes will be higher for the next few years, even though it wasn't your fault, which will cost more than £100.

Just keep calling her and texting (don't write anything threatening or anything which could be interpreted as threatening) to try and get some money off her, but i fear you may have to write this one off - which is extremely annoying because it means she hasn't had to take responsibility for what she has done. Just be thankful it isn't an expensive car! Stuff like this makes me wish i had a cheap car i didn't care about. :(
