I guess we will have to wait and see.

Heres hoping he will come to Spurs instead, but he's probably being linked to drive up interest in him.

Yeah.. I don't believe Arsenal will sign him, but I don't see any reasons with any of the signings so far, that would stop him. I think most people were hoping Podolski was going to be played on the left anyway. So it would be Giroud and Llorente fighting it out for the central position, perfect scenario IMO.

£9M for Dawson is great buisness as far as Spurs are concerned. Sentiments aside he just doesn't suit AVB hgh line style, considering a battleship turns faster. He is a committed defender and a very good one at that who will do a good job for most prem sides, but he does have his limitations, mainly his lack of pace. QPR lack leaders and without doubt he would slot straight in there as captain, my only worry is his fitness, he has recently had two very serious injuries, hopefully for his sake he won't have any repeats of them.

looks like dawson is going to go. only going off what my friend is saying but he's usually pretty accurate. wow. we looked like a different team on saturday, we certainly will with the way things seem to be going. do or die from AVB.

sky picking up on it now

eek

It seems like a horridly short sighted sale:

1) Gallas is not for our team for much longer. Who is the backup or the backup’s backup?
2) Are we THAT 100% certain that Vert is better than Dawson who was the one constant defender in our CL qualifying season?
Both point to Dawson as being massively valuable to us.

Regarding the Dawson donkey hoof rather than playing it short from teh back- is AVB THAT bad a coach that he cant teach a defender how to lay it off. We know Sir Twitchalot was that bad at coaching but surely AVB could instruct Dawson what to do?

Finally; if two of our 3 defenders (Caulker, Vert, Kaboom) get injured next season, who are we replacing them with? Gallas is already past it IMHO and I cant see him sticking around past the end of this season. So what happens next season?

Dawson can be infuriating with the hoofs and last ditch tackles but he IS an accomplished defender. £10m will not buy us a replacement and Dawson is a quality defender.

I am shocked so few people remember him marshalling a shakey ever changing defence with Gomes as the keeper in our CL qualifying season. During that period we kept many clean sheets. That whole effort was immense from Dawson. He was a stalwart who organised, drilled and motivated.

How can we cut our losses so soon on him for a measily £9m? I have no idea. How can we be so confident that Vert is a perfect upgrade? Again I have no idea. If we need a replacement defender next year for Gallas, who can we buy for £9m that would be better than Dawson? I cannot think of anyone.

This STINKS of AVB tinkering again. I really thought he would improve us, but he seems to have a seagull management mentality of flying in and crapping all over the place.

Thud IS a quality option and Dawson cannot be replaced for £9m easily or without substantial risk being undertaken by Spurs. We have plenty other chaff we can dump; bentley, dos santos, jenas, gomes and khumalo would all be far lesser losses.

@Snax while It will be shame to see Dawson go as he is Spurs through and through and a fan favourate, I just can't see him getting much game time here at all, and 9M is a great offer and too good to turn down. Caulker, Vertonghen, and Kaboul are all ahead of him are all under 25 and touch wood rarely get injured. Gallas is experienced and can slot in when and as needed at short notice no problem, and at a squeeze Livermoore can do a job there in an emergency (as can Thudd if needed), four CH should be ample. And trust me Vertonghen will be one of the best CH in the league very soon, and will be our captain before long, he is a £20M player but wasjust on the last year of his contract.

I guess Arsenal might be after another LB back now. Andre Santos just got nicked doing 130MPH after a police chase, could face prison apparently. (Suspended sentence most likely)

£9m is a pittance for a defender approaching his prime. Gallas is absolutely ancient and absurdly slow. Why not ditch him instead?

We saw the trouble Man Utd got into with Carrick at the back- they were forced into that position. Why would we voluntarily march towards that position for £9m?

I would prefer to dump Gallas and Livermore and keep Dawson. All of us would love for Vertonghen to be the signing of the summer, but at present, he is completely unproven. Dawson on the other hand is a proven defender who is certainly more able than man backups for the other top 4 team. He is better than Alex, Smalling, Luiz, Savic Toure, Evans etc. Why the hell would we ditch him for such a pittance?

More to the point, who are we replacing him with? We can expect to have two defenders injured at some point, who are we bringing in to replace him (assuming Gallas is not available for much longer and that we dont want a CM playing in central defence)?

i am still a little shocked about it tbh, unless there's more to his injury than we know, though if this is the case, he will fail the medical.

i assume we either have someone lined up or are going to push caulker on.

i also don't know how long dawson had left on his contract? king and dawson gone, really is a clear out but with gallas still there, it is still a bit of a mish mash.

it had been coming though, atleast AVB is going for it, i just hope this money gets re-invested and re-invested well.

AVB will deserve huge Kudos if he maintains top 4 this season.

The squad is being ravaged and the replacements are all high risk.

The problem we have had and continue to have is attracting replacements for top quality footballers. I would group Dawson in this bracket; who is both available and willing to come to us for £10m?

We have just settled for Adebayor, but who else can/could we get? Who will replace Modric (though he obviously needs to push off). It is not a case of XXX is available for £5m, it needs to be he is both available and willing to join Spurs.

Impossible to replace Modric like for like, and finding an established Premiership player is going to be exceptionally difficult. I assume Spurs won't spend big on an established player, it probably would have to be a relative unknown for the long term, but if (and that's a huge if) he could be signed very cheap, Joe Cole might be worth a punt to see if he can be a quality player again before he retires.

Joe Cole wasn't ever a quality player, just a flukey one, he thinks tricks are more important than end product, his age, not playing much and his wage, most people would be mad to go for him. I can't see him doing anything but sucking down his wage while not playing at Pool, he'll probably happily go anywhere that would take him on loan but it looked like no one wanted to take a punt last year in the EPL, doubt anyone will this year either.

As for Santos, great, anyone remember from other stories what kind of sentence players get. Story I read sounds bad, police spotted him driving eratically, tried to stop him so he then sped off at 130mph, and he was weaving in and out of traffic at stupid high speeds. I assume that will be viewed worse than someone driving 100mph down an empty stretch of road who stops when the police ask them to. What the hell was he thinking, his signing goes from bad to worse, unless we can fire him if he goes to jail.

An announcement of a kind of Angelo Henriquez. We've been waiting for a work permit.

http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...-henriquez-to-sign-for-manchester-united.aspx

Plays last game for Universidad de Chile tomorrow and the official announcement will follow. :)

What sort of player is he? Out and out striker? Pace demon? Poacher? Why would we need him in our already over saturated attacking team?

Any word on when we might see this new Buttner kid? He can also play RB I heard. Will allow Valencia to play as a rw.

EDIT: Angelo is only 18. Well, I guess he can hope for some CC football if he is lucky.

Now that the Sahin deal is apparently in the bag it's time for Wnger to work on M'Vila and Llorente.

Never going to happen, maybe M'Vila(even though Wenger has said its off) but have you heard the price they want for Llorente? He won't sell for anything less than 30m. Could imagine someone like Llorente playing for Stoke.

Spurs trying to sign Leandro Damião:

Tottenham Hotspur representatives arrived in Brazil last night in an attempt finally to sign Leandro Damião from Internacional, just hours after completing a permanent deal for Emmanuel Adebayor.

The North London club have been chasing the Brazil forward for more than a year.

Giovanni Luigi, the Internacional president, has said that he does not need to sell, having received £25 million from Chelsea for Oscar, but would consider an “extraordinary” offer, thought to be as much £24 million. Luigi has already rejected two bids from Tottenham for the player.

Damião’s arrival would almost certainly see Jermain Defoe depart, with Tottenham keen to cash in on a forward who turns 30 in October. Sunderland’s approach for Defoe has been welcomed by Tottenham.

A carbon copy of van Nistelrooy, by all accounts. I think he'll get a few sub appearances here and there, he won't be in the team every weekend.

Spurs trying to sign Leandro Damião:

I think he'd do well in the Premier League, won't come cheap, mind you.

Cavani and Hulk are still in the frame:

The issue for Chelsea is that, unless they change formation, they can't play both Torres and Cavani, but Cavani would be extremely important if Torres was struggling or injured.

Rumours that SAF is looking at Mexes (who isnt supposed to be in AC's plans) on loan preferably but to buy if necessary - it is tne daily fail and a few other places so it could be nothing....
