I wouldn't mind us shipping out Nani if we got a promising player in to replace him, and one who is less of a winger too, like Eriksen for example perhaps.

Wishful thinking (even if Utd got 25m upfront for Nani, they would still lose £5m+ on the deal - from reports on how much Eriksen's club want for him). Not impossible but something to consider

I wouldn't be totally against cashing in on Nani, but it wouldn't solve our main problem even if we replaced him with a better player.

We don't have a single boss in the middle of the park, not one. Our display on monday has become fairly typical, and until that major issue is sorted it will remain so this season, and the next...

If welbeck had shown any speed/strength/composure he should have scored. Sadly he couldnt provide any. I figure el chicharito would have scored.

Sell nani for 25 million, buy lucas for 35? Nm fergie only 2 months too later.

He would have scored, sure, then it would have been called offside and disallowed ;)

So spurs fans, am I missing why Huddlestone is being loaned out? Surely if Modric is gone as yet you basically have no one at all for a central passing role which Huddlestone fills. Sure you MIGHT buy someone for there, it might not happen, if it happens they might get injured, or adapt really badly, flop horribly then you're left with no one. Also without anyone else the pressure on a new player is much higher. Getting rid of Huddlestone before you have a replacement signed is surely pretty much insane?

I don't think he's great, but he's better than Jenas/Sandro and the likes.

For me nani never seems to just play it simple , he always tries to do all the fancy stuff like he is ronaldo. On his day if your a defender he can be unplayable because he is just as good with either foot but for me he isn't consistent enough and I can't see him getting any better

can't really compare huddlestone to either. he doesn't have the craft or guile of modric, he's very slow, large turning circle but has a cracking pass and a great shot on him, he's scored some crackers. if he had pace, he'd be a great player in cm due to his size, but he doesn't.

i can only assume AVB simply doesn't see he has a future in his plans so will loan him out, keep an eye on him as opposed to having him on the bench as parker, sandro, sig, VDV will all start ahead of him, couple this with lennon and bale and it's a case of there being no room for him with gio and livermore on the bench ..... annnnd us being linked very strongly with willian, so we are going to be overcooked in midfield if this goes through, which i hope it does.

but, huddlestone is a good squad player, ideal for cup and euro games. he's not the kind of player one can bring on to kill a game off for the last 20 as he doesn't have elements of his game to do this, he can't nacker an opposition out and he can't dictate a pace. i don't think he's played for us for about a year now, we haven't really missed him in all honesty. same with jenas and bentley. we've been due a clear out for a while and it's happening.

so far this year we've lost pav (bad move) kranjcar (i'm on the fence, i'd prefer him to jenas) corluka (bad move) pienaar (on the fence) nelsen (good move) saha (good move) bassong (good move) loaned out huddlestone and possibly jenas and bentley. i'm not even sure where gomes fits into our plans but that's quite a good reduction in wages. and modric is as good as gone and king retired..

what will happen with Giovani dos Santos this season? another loan? permanent transfer? or a surprise fresh start under AVB resulting in him getting a lot of playing time and turning out to be pretty good?

Sigurdson, keep forgetting he's at Spurs, it just doesn't click automatically as a name I associate with their midfield. in which case they do have someone who can play central mid but an offensive role. While I don't rate Huddlestone massively, its more a case of having people in central midfield to pass the ball forwards and look for the throughball. It was Modric last year, with Huddlestone the only other player to really fill that role. VDV as a second striker or on the wing, can't easily see him push back into central midfield that well but its possible.

Thing is though, it's still the question that if Spurs can't get their Modric replacement and Sig get's injured, you're relying on basically Sandro to provide the attacking force from central midfield, he's power but not much else, he's not going to control a game through his passing or create loads of chances for others. Still think its mad to ditch Huddlestone before you confirm a replacement as if you don't get one, a single injury to Sigurdson could really hurt your season badly.

i agree, it's a worry and it showed on saturday, the only thing we had close to a passing outlet from our own half was livermore, and that's never good! ok he can play it simple (so can parker tbf) but he'll never craft a pass that will split a defence open. i hope we have a plan for this, if we don't, i assume it will be a case of BAE or walker running out and we play down the wings. on more than a few occassions, kaboul took the ball from friedel and ran, all the way to oppositions area and then .... well, he either attempted a pass or ran the ball out of play! if he has improved on this, i'd like to see more of it, even if it was a bit 'run forest, run!'

as for gio, Icm76, i believe he will get chances but he's in the last chance saloon.

Mexican press (one of which is Raza Deportiva) and journalists, say Man Utd have bid €13.5m for Hector Herrera. He's a Mexican CM. The club (Pachuca) president has confirmed our interest as well.

At least the player doesn't have an agent so that won't be a problem. He doesn't appear to be a ball winner though, more of an offensive player.

As posted a few days ago, he was part of the Mexico team that won gold at the Olympics :)

What on earth are we going to do with another offensive midfielder? I can't quite grasp why we have 1 defensive midfielder, 4 offensive midfielders and one 'other'.

No it all comes naturally. You can't keep someone all pre season then decide to sell him after the first game. But then equally if we had sold him we'd have been in a much better position to buy Lucas having freed up a squad place and most of the cash to buy him.

Clearly now its too late.

Oh and we still have berbatov depreciating on the bench. Still not sold him but we should have moved him last summer.

I don't think Lucas would have come even if we'd sold Nani first, their positions might be similar but I don't think the two deals are connected at all. Now or at the latest January is the time to let Nani go if that's what we're looking to do. Unfortunately as much as some people rate Nani, the lack of clubs willing to take him off us is the more true reflection of his recent performances.

From what I've read Herrera is more a box to box midfielder rather than a solely attacking one. Personally I hope this 'interest' is just media BS, all the midfielders that we've let move to other clubs and yet this guy we dont want to miss out on? Seems a bit like panic buying to me

How do you know there's been a lack of interest in Nani? Do you work on the phones at OT?

Of course I do, that's the only way I could make that assumption isn't it :p.

Well that and the fact that other than the rumoured bid from Zenit there's been not a whisper as far as offers for Nani go. I will concede that it is possible there have been multiple £20m+ bids for him that have somehow managed to stay private, but given the kind of money we'd be talking about, I find that unlikely enough that I'm comfortable with assuming no news = no bids.
