***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I'm not sure if you can flash the stock firmware via CWM as it will remove CWM and your root doing so. Generally have to use Odin to flash a stock rom, which you should be able to download off of Samfirmware.

Go to www.samfirmware.com, Then navigate to Firmware and Files. Select (Type) Smartphone, (OS) Android, (Model) GT-I9300 - Galaxy SIII, (Country) United Kingdom BTU. Then click send. This should show up all Firmwares and sort them by release date.

If you need Odin then it should be available in the Additional Files section below the Firmwares.

Aye, but once it's flashed it'll overwrite CWM anyway.

I've got my Mac with me, but there's no Odin for the Mac is there?

Please don't compare an S3 to an iphone. It's unlawful. Give JB a few months to settle and it'll possibly be the greatest o/s to ever grace the galaxy..... Until the next one anyway.

Here's an instant comparison that made me hate my iphone -

Go on youtube on both - and search for a music video. Guess which one shows you genuine music videos and which one doesn't.

Thanks apple I love the way you dictate what I can and cannot see!

GF has just got an S3 as her upgrade, and has a few niggles. I've had a look but I'm not an Android person, so have run out of ideas.

1) She uses the default Mail app for her work email which syncs with an Exchange server. All is fine apart from the app doesn't seem to update when emails are read on a PC etc. The notification light still flashes and the app still has the email until you go into it, when it then refreshes. If it's pushing email, shouldn't it also update read messages? She tried K-9 but couldn't get on with the UI.

2) How long should the battery last typically with moderate use? She makes a few calls, texts and a bit of web browsing and has several accounts like Google, Exchange, FB etc. syncing and is having to charge pretty much every 24 hours. That's worse than her old iPhone 4 which had the same "stuff" going on and had a 2-year old battery in it. Screen brightness is on Auto, and Wi-Fi is set to be on all the time as she moves between areas with poor mobile connectivity.

3) Can she stop the Gallery app trying to detect other devices around her/on the same network when she goes into it?

Thanks

1. Has she maybe set the email client to download headers only? Open the mail app, go to settings then the exchange account and look for 'Size to retrieve emails'. I set mine to 5kb, works fine for me.

2. I don't even get 24 hours. My personal phone (2 year old iphone 4) lasts much longer despite the fact I use it much more and it has more mail accounts syncing etc.

3. I don't think so, the gallery app is garbage. Try scaleo album or quickpic as a replacement :)

1. It was already set to 2kb, but I set it to 50kb and still doesn't update read emails. Very annoying, and it's not even my phone! :o

2. So you are saying to have to charge every 24 hours without even heavy use is considered normal for the S3? I find that bizarre with the iPhone comparison, as that's the one that always seems to get slated in terms of battery performance. At worst she had to do that every couple of days, and that was with Bluetooth turned on too for the car! Pretty much straight after she has fully charged the S3 overnight and got out the house it can drop 1-2% without touching it.

3. After I posted this I did wonder about getting another gallery app. Installed Gallery ICS for her and that's much better.

If the battery drops quickly after change, you on the older firmware. Where it drop 100% to 97% within minutes. Think its just errors in the reporting and overall battery life is the same.

But its depends on what you class has low/heavy usage. But as a general benchmark, 1 hour's screen time will use 25% of your battery with 3G, with Wi-Fi its about 15%.

You cannot compare battery life on two phones when one has a 3.5" display and the other has a 4.8" 720p screen. Not forgetting the fact the S3 has a bloody quad core.

Fair enough, but seeing as the iPhone gets slated for it's battery life and her old one had more battery-draining features enabled (and was 2 years old) then I would have expected a brand new phone to last at least as long.

Is this the cell standby reporting bug? I read about it but as I understand Samsung themselves haven't fixed it yet? The phone itself is fully updated as far as I know, guessing it will only get fixed through official channels when the JB update comes out?

The Team GB phone looks great:

Just had my S3 delivered this morning...while the phone is far more impressive than I thought it would be, I think it may have a hardware problem - the LED cannot produce yellow. Is this normal? Just worth checking before getting a replacement...:/

Mine does yellow however it is kinda a greenish yellow. If that's no help I suggest wearing yellow socks to compensate.

Mine's more orange on one side to green on the other. No true yellow is mixed in there :(

Apparently there was a new revision that moved the LEDs closer together/moved to a single multi-colour LED? Surely mine would be the second revision at this moment in time...

To be honest, if that's the case I really cannot see a replacement device fixing the issue!

More opinions appreciated :)

EDIT: It can't do white either. Just a mix of colours. Does plainer red, blue and green absolutely fine.
