Asus Maximus V Formula Preview/ Results/ everything Thread!!!

Just bought and installed my Maximus V Gene but not overclocked it yet. Got a question about the board though. A free ROG 16GB USB was part of the deal. I have received what looks like a credit card and I have no idea what to do with it! Is this the 16GB USB? I thought it was going to be a 16GB pen drive.

Sorted now! Should have posted in the Customer area first before here but always forget it's there!

Can someone take a look at this and tell me why it's only showing my core speed as 1604.8MHz? I'm running the cpu at stock speeds at the moment. I tried the cpu level up and the stats stayed the same in CPU-Z. Is it a bug or something wrong with me setup?

I think this is speedstep kicking in - so cpu clocks down at idle.Try loading the cpu too 100% with prime95 or something similar, you will then see the true clock speed at load.

Thanks Mark, you were right. Prime95 showed the core speed as it should be. If I want to overclock should I leave speedstep on or turn it off?

Think most hardcore overclockers turn it off,but if you want the voltage of the cpu to drop at idle, which saves power, then I would leave it enabled. You only really need to disable it if you want to run at your overclock setting all the time.

No the top overclockers dont turn speed step off in bios for most stable overclocking leave speed step on and then use the power profiles in Windows to run the CPU at full mhz all the time. Select the performance profile to do this.

You should however disable the C states for better stability when clocking.

Psychas do you have a link to those DIMMS please are they a dual channel kit which you bought two of???? or is the XMP certifed for Z77??? For Sandy 16gb at stock VCCIO with those timings is very tight.

You could also try two things initially to try help. Up VCCIO voltage slowly not going past a peak of 1.15. I say slowly as my 2500K and 2600k like 1.125 VCCIO evan at 5.6 and 5.75 gig respectively anymore and they crash.

I would also try setting 7-11-7-28 or 8-9-8-28 and TRFC of 96 or 114 and then Maximus Tweak mode 1.

See if this gets you stable and post back.

I stand corrected. Cheers 8pack.Must admit I have always left my speedstep on during overclocking - so don't know why I advised to turn it off. Oh well nothing like a blonde moment.Lol:p

Sorry was busy couple of days , yes they dual channel i had one of them then i bought second one they worked fine on amd system :P. link of them here : http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Redline/996999.aspx

i checked my all cables unplugged them and plugged them back in same with sata and memory and gpu , but as soon i started pc in restarted after few minutes without blue screen.

going to try thing you suggested see how it goes.

Were is TRFC located cant seem to find it .

edit : well it is completely dead now , i cannot boot to windows in windows logo it restarts every time (default bios dont help aether does same thing) , if i make it to welcome screen it gives me Stop : 0x00000124 error , i had another ram that is officially supported by the motherboard as stated in manual so i swopped it around ,still does the same thing. ;/ what can it be and can i do anything to fix it ?

well i tried everything again this morning and nothing , so installed asus corsair formula IV and 1090t back going to replace maximus with maximus hopefully will be working properly.

124 is a memory related problem.

VCCIO voltage, timing adjustments will sort it.

Why would you give in so quickly?? That is not the board its the IMC on the SB

Start in this way then with two sticks. Set xmp, maximus tweak mode 1 VCCIO 1.15. VDRAM 1.65

Test!!!

hi

So my board has shipped :-)

Upon researching I learnt following;

- space between a gpu and a Noctua NH-D14 is tiggghhhttt!
- use of insulation tape required between cooler fan clip and you backplate.

Hi Baron!!

Yes several on the ROG forums have had to use insulation tape. Let us know how your build goes.

Beautiful Mainboard. looks sweet in my Ft02. I'll need to look into aftermarket cables as lots on show.

Posted first time. Straight into bios, had a look through bios, very clean and understandable. None of the mouse stuttering from previous Mainboard.

Question; Board offered OC at 4.6 on Auto, how does it judge the OC ?
(I didn't over lock anything)

Windows booted up from ssd. Win7 installed generic controls. ssd still has drivers from previous mainboard.
But I'll do a full clean intall when I get home tonight.(better to be safe right?)

My sapphire 7950 fitted in 'just' I insulated my Noctua fan clips as they touch VGA card PCB. Haven't installed it , that's the big one.

Oh and 8pack, im same Baron on ROG site ;-) im stalking you !

Yeah I know mate!!! LOL!!!

I noticed that and let Zaki answer your questions. I am heavily envolved in that Forum as you could see.

Just post here or on ROG and I will offer you any support needed.

Well I got this board on Friday and am mightily impressed with it. One thing I am having problems with is the Bluetooth. I can play music from my phone but I cant use any of the Overclocking App's on Android

Has anyone got any experience of using Bluetooth with the Maximus V Formula ?

BIOS has been updated to 0802

I use ROG connect with that board mate from my laptop or desktop when benchmarking. Works flawlessly.

The Bluetooth option I have not tried but believe it to be hit and miss from what I read on the ROG forum which I help out with.
