Warranty

Since when do HD come with 1 year warranty. I seem to remember them coming with 3-5 year warranty as standard. Is this since the price hike and excuses about floods ?
Think Seagate and WD reduced warranties to 1 and 2 years respectively at the start of this year. They claimed it was to bring HDD warranties "in line with warranties offered on other components".

Greediness, which they are entitled to be, they are in business to make money but shortsighted, it doesnt induce confidence for a component whose function is longterm data storage. My next purchase (soon) will be WD solely for the extra warranty. Although most components tend to fail relativly quickly and either work or not, HDD's in my experience are a bit of an exception.

It does appear that the hard drive market needs a new manufacturer because they are taking the peep imo. Went from £60 7200rpm 2tb 3-5 year warranty. To £90 5900rpm 2tb 1 year warranty. But i doubt we will see a new manufacture most new manufacturers will be going in to SSD instead. I just can't buy a 2tb hd for £150 without feeling a bit robbed, they probably cost £25 to make.

Probably going to buy the samsung though, need space.
