The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Great combo. How many clicks on the D3? Seen that the second hand prices on them have finally come down to really nice and reasonable levels since the D4 came out :D

More than I'd like, but I did get it for less than the average price... plus getting a new shutter won't be as expensive as it normally would be for me.

That lens.. what are you taking pics of with it?

Jets mostly, although it'll be useful for sports too. Waiting for a cheap 1.4x and 2x tele to come up for sale to pair with it.

Thinktank international 2.0 is great, carry on size and fits loads in.

1 downside, if the airline ever weight it, with it fully laden it weights about 20kg for me, they will want to put it in the hold and it's not really strong enough for that.

For long haul travel the peli 1510 is better.

It is dependant on airlines and the one time I flew with it they never checked...thank god.

The x-ray guy took and age looking a his screen though, and when I got to my seat it did not fit over head, the flight attendant almost took it to the hold but I managed to squeeze it under the seat in front with half sticking out, I sat VERY uncomfortably the whole flight, luckily it was only just over an hour.

The wheels on this is also nicer than the Peli, the wheels on the peli has hardly any road clearance.

Also, I would have thought if your bags were just a little over, you would be able to pay a little extra, and still carry it on if it was in accordance to the size restrictions?

In the hold, yes, as a carry on, they can apply strict limits, they apply the size limit but not always the weight.

I could be wrong though, but again, airline dependant.

flying is such royal pain with camera gear. Flew back form the US last year with a standard cabin bag chucked full of gear (D90, 24-70, 70-200, 1.4TC, 70-300, 10-20, 35 1.8, 16-85, polariser, batteries + laptop + external HD).

Of course it weighed well over 15kg. Made 6 or 7 flights to the US and around the US with this setup and no issue, the very last flight from Berlin to Lausanne on my way home Air Berlin weighed the carry on and hell broke loose. Started re-packing, putting the TC + 70-200 on the camera with stacked filters to hold around my neck (a camera didn't count as a carry on item apparently), Then put some of the smaller lenses in m jacket pockets. During this process a giant queue built up and I managed to hide my laptop out of sight. Got them to re-weight the carry on which was now under weight (without laptop in it). Then they said that was OK to fly with. then i spent 10 minutes arguing if I could put all the camera equipment back in the carry on because it was all going on the plane anyway. They refused so I huddled off out of site and put everything back into the carry on around the corner.

I thought it was plain sailing at this point.

Of course when I start boarding the plane another anal retentive asks me to fit my cary on in the basket used to check sizes . I struggle to lift it into place and sue all my strength to squeeze it in. Success, I am allowed to take it with me. Trouble is now it is well and truly jammed in this metal basket and I just about rip the whole carry on in pieces to get it out.

Walk on the plane flustered, the bag wont fit under the seat in front at all so I go to put it in the overhead. This bag was weighing something like 15-18KGs, I was extremely tired and jet lagged (one of these 36 hour days, flight was cancelled day before) . I was too week to place it in the overhead locker first try. Air hostess sees me struggle and alarm bells star ringing in her head. She ties to assist me, realises the weight of the bag and tells me to put it under the seat in front...

Try as I might it wont fit so I rest my feet on it it. A little later the hostess notices and tries to put the bag in the hold but agrees to wait and see if somone will sit next to me, if not then the bag can sit there. Luckily no one turned up !

Mine in the peli weights 24kg (no laptop).

I don't think I can put that above my head, even if I swing it pass check in as it's larger than carry on size.

Plan is for it to go in the hold anyway with some gear and some with me if I ever travel with it all.

Nothing to wave ya willy at but I received my Yongnuo 560 II yesterday and I've gotta say I love it, never had a flash gun before lol
Manual but fairly easy to use and the wireless triggering works a treat with the 60D, ordered some wireless triggers too so I don't have to use the pop up as a master flash but 50 quid well spent I reckon

Not had to fly with all my gear so far but thankfully it pretty much all fits in a smallish shoulder back (I can put non-delicate accessories in checked luggage).

Think the weight thing is related to size. If you have a smallish bag then they assume the weight will be fine and won't bother checking it. They obviously don't realise how dense camera gear can be and how much even a small amount of it can weigh. The smaller the bag you can cram it into the better.

I have a pair of the Mark I coupled with the 430EX and indeed they are excellent flashguns and capable of outputting a lot of light and getting close to high end Canon speedlite levels. Perfect for wireless usage :D

If it hs TTL support though then it would mean less running around adjusting stuff.

Yeah I bought manual as I'll have time to set up with what it'll be used for,
If it sees enough action I may concider going for the 565 as that's ttl, I want multiple flashes for car photoshoots eventually anyway :)

Picked this up today from Jessops:

Very wise to pick it up. I ordered my one on Saturday and went with the next day delivery, wouldn't come on a Sunday or bank holiday Monday so I get home today eager to get my hands on it... no show. Oh well maybe it will be here tomorrow, so I click on track your order and it is on back order :( Bet the payment isn't on back order...

Ah not good. Was full of indecision over the weekend between this and the D3200 and decided to go into Jessops today to try them both. Good deal overall for £529 I thought.

It's not bad compared to v3 but it does seem to cane my CPU more than the old version, as in mouse skipping at times (I have updated to 4.1), doesn't seem to use as much RAM as before though. Switching between panes is about the same, cropping/rotating images can lag too as well as not showing correctly the crop in the navigator pane.

Anyone with any use with it on a better CPU than i5 750, mainly more than 4 core processors, think it runs quicker than the old version?
