Guild Wars 2

Had about 4hrs play today got booted off once and i left to go have some lunch. Like i said earlier its a very good game, and probably the first mmo that i can see myself getting to max level eventually.
I managed to get to level 9 (highest i seen was 11) im a norn warrior and hes just awesome with two handed sword. I met my first proper big bad ass boss (the maw) and it took about 15 of us to kill him. I got loads of stuff from the chest probably cause i got gold:D
Anyway i may try again tonight or just wait till tomorrow it will probably be a lot better by then. Besides ive got my invite to planetside 2 beta today so im dling that.

Having no previous experience of an MMO release how would I know this is the norm. If my general experience of gaming is - pay money = play game, then why wouldn't I find this experience annoying.
Now if I had experience with MMO's and new what to expect then I wouldn't complain. Does that make sense to you?

Fair comment Panda. I've played launch days for most major MMO's and it is always the same. It does not make it right though, neither should we just expect it. It's just disappointing now.

Equally having examined the GW2 website (terms & conditions), my understanding is that I have paid more for a 3 day head start. It's not a good will gift? I did so because I'm back offshore on Wednesday and wanted to play before I go.

If I'm honest with myself it's actually all my fault. I've been sucked in as usual by the hype and they have got my money. Time will tell how much my extra expenditure will actually get me in game time :)

If all else fails I'll wash the car then hit the pub. Fingers crossed things settle as the day goes on and good luck.

If you have no experience of MMO's, would it not not be more sensible to ask people of what to expect, and not to complain before knowing anything?

- Run about 4 stresstests over the course of 3 months in advance.
- Reach (PRE-)launch day.
- Log-in servers ******

GG.

Serious? So far it's been the best launch I can remember of an MMO, and that's even including the fact I'm currently unable to log in.

This. All other large games have had abysmal releases. Ive had about 4 hours play before being kicked now and only had one other minor issue so I'd consider it a success by comparison

LOTRO let us login a day early without telling anyone and there was no problems for me at all or anyone else who played it.

GW2 even though it took me 20 mins to login this morning and booted off once. I still see it as a successful launch, compared to other mmos (apart from LOTRO of course).

The Immortals are up, being so since about 5:10am :p ..yeah sad!! please see our website for who to email in game for guild invites! (about 50 in so far!)

you paid for the game not for headstart - that was a gift on behalf of the devs.
now stop your crying.

A 'gift', rofl. How naive. A business is not a charity.

It's a marketing technique. Promising advance access is nothing but a business selling strategy to try and get as many pre-orders as possible. It's not a 'gift', no single thing about the scheme implies some benevolent charity or altruism. They offer a headstart because a million (!!!) people pre-ordered this game, crediting their company account with millions of Euros worth of trade.

Yes, many MMO launches are like this (though not this bad, imo, even WoW's launch had a working log-in/authentication server, and it was 5x bigger). But stop feeding the company line with this 'ooooh we are not worthy of their kindness!' talk. It's rubbish.

I think LOTRO is the only game that I didn't try at launch.. So basically, there are login problems for any launch of an MMO that I'm involved with! :p

"the game client is unable to gain access to the login server at this time"

Is this the standard error message at the moment?
