Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Not sure but everything seems better as of last night but not actually done a speedtest as i only have 1 pc hard wired :)

Yours?

Good stuff! Was a bit shaky again earlier, but seems to have gone back to 85-100 now. Have they been doing any work on the routers or headend, etc? Definitely seems better the past couple of days :)

Have been getting a lot of txt updates on this fault ref recently so I'm not sure if it's related: F002110075.

Makes no difference. The password is not your account password as stated but a security password that you set up on the account. Much like when you call up to speak to customer services from almost all major organisations do. The guy having a rant is a ******* who doesn't know what he is talking about.

Read his response.

Hi Adam. Thanks for the info. I did, of course, check all of the details before writing the article, and have double checked them since. Also, my account is only a couple of months old, so I remember the sign up process pretty well.

During the sign up process I was asked for 2 pieces of security info 1) a password and 2) my mother's maiden name.

Not sure what that fault number is tbh. I'll see if I can find out (not sure how to check ticket numbers)

I have a 60mb line, so Im a happy bunny tbh.

Saying that, I know its faster in the early hours with less traffic. This was taken at 21.30

Have a slightly odd problem for you guys;

My dad got an Iphone the other day to replace his blackberry and was complaining that his emails would no longer come through on this phone and his laptop (as in, if he receives an email on his phone he cant receive it on his laptop as well).

I decided to setup Thunderbird on his laptop to imap4.blueyonder.co.uk and his iPhone to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk. This basically worked except for that fact that thunderbird now tries to downloaded about 13,000 emails dating back to 2010 each and every time he checks his mail. Deleting them doesn't seem to help.

Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Cheers.

Yeh nice one :) not sure if it was related though. Starting to wonder if these T3 timeouts that I've been getting have anything to do with the varied speeds.

Put 'recent:' before the username (without the quotes and no space after the colon), this is one of the changes made when they outsourced the email to google.

He is still wrong. The password they ask for again is not the one for your virgin media account. Its a security password you create to verify who you are.

They have no access to your log in details.

You create your log in separately

+1

Sky do this, it's a complete non-issue.

Comparing his bank password to his VM account password is laughable.

Thanks, i'll give it a go. I didn't realise they had outsourced it to google but i guess that explains my thunderbird was defaulting the servers to googlemail.

Ah, just had a response from a Virgin forum rep:

Apologies for the delay. Ok without running any tests here I am guessing this an overutilised cable. Classic - speeds OK at 7:45am but low in the evenings.

Lets see what my checks turn up.

Yep, downstream utilisation is close to the level where we would be looking to raise a fault, not there yet, but certainly high enough to cause some issues at peak times.
We will keep an eye on this cable and escalate as a fault if this gets any worse.

Is he correct awinchurch, or just talking bull? :p as I know you've already done these utilisation checks yourself.

Your downstream ports have peaked once for a very small amount of time when I checked. Also slow speeds in the day when utilisation is showing at around 30%?

I doubt it is utilisation if I'm honest. Also utilisation doesn't happen overnight and I had your broadband running at full speeds at 8PM only 3 - 4 days before you noticed any issue

having a few problems with my net i was told i had been put onto the 100mb service so its a little extra a month.
However it looks to me they have got me on the 60mb which i should have been upgraded for free the other month.

is there anywhere on the router page that tells me what speed im on i cannot find it anywhere

thanks a bunch so i have been put on the 100mb after all :D

well i think it works out to the 100mb download and 5mb upload.

So my area resegmentation work date is closing in, still a month away but getting there. Does anyone have any idea how long this kind of work takes?

I can now at long last get BT Infinity in my area. Only up to 65Mb, but if its stable thats all I'd need.

just had 100mb installed :) - not quite there speed wise but not far off

myfree upgrade to 60mb had been delayed till mid-next year -so phoned up to winge, and on a contract for 12months they offered me 100mb for very little extra compared to what I am paying now
