Origin Hacked

Always.

But the problem was at their end by the sounds of things.

The fact EA didn't accuse you outright would definitely suggest a problem on their end. Pretty worrying. Companies like Blizzard can usually determine the cause of break-in so I wouldn't be surprised if EA have similar systems in place.

Wait so as an apology they gave you all unlocks and max rank ? |:
How is that fair on legit players? Someone hack me!

Call me ungrateful but I've not used the code yet, I am debating if I'd rather earn it all myself. I've done pretty well so far that way and it almost feels like cheating myself out of the enjoyment of the game if I just unlock everything in one go rather than earning it. I don't know if they meant "max rank" his specific words were:

As compensation for this issue, I granted you Max Vet status and the code is for Ultimate Unlock Kit

That suxs :( I would still do a malware scan anyway just in case though most people get hacked through a key logger.

Another comon one which happend to an old guild I was in on WoW, we had about 12 people hacked in the space of just over a week turns out all the people who got hacked had all used the same password for the guild forum as they did for there WoW account.

I got two emails, one saying my password had been changed and the other saying my email address had been changed, now I can't log in because my email address isn't right.

Afaik, you can only confirm password/email change through email conformation links.

If you never received password/email change requests via your Origin registered email addy, then the problems not from your end, it's firmly at Origins end.

Hope it all works out in the end, tell them that's a miserable compensation for all your grief/time as well, they can and should do much better than that if they accept blame.

I stated as such in the BF3 thread, but I have had to change my password three times in the last month. The last time only 2 days after changing it again. They have never actually used the account though apart from the first time, when they changed my tags from the BF2 tags to the duck tag.

My passwords are stored on Keepass so are never typed out and it is the max, 16 digit complicated password using all sets of characters that are available.

I am pretty sure that the only reason someone has not actually stolen the account is that my attached email account has an ever more complicated 24 digit complicated password, also on Keepass.

Someone somewhere is obtaining account information and it sucks.

I am going to contact them and ask why it is happening. I just cannot believe it is a problem at my end. There is no way to hack the password as it is encrypted, let alone keylog it as I never type it in!

Just had my account email address altered.

I'm not surprised considering my password was something quite simple, and i'd been meaning to alter it since i first started using Origin, which was quite a long time ago, much before i started with BF3.

Gonna contact EA support now and see what i can do. Stupid russian kid :o

Are you getting a "password or email address not recognised" message when trying to log in? It done this with me earlier, so i requested a password validation key to be mailed to me, then i reset my password and got in ok. Origin throws hissy fits like this, particularly after updates to it.

yep same yesterday had same BS, this is like the second time i had this since i bought BF3 last year

Just got of the phone with the support line. (0870 243 2435)

Online chat was useless, as i couldn't remember my secret answer. I kept asking if it were possible that the question/answer could have altered, but he didn't reply. He said that without a valid answer he couldn't touch the account.

The guy on the phone was much more helpful. Told him the details for the account (ID and old email) and then my BF3 serial key, and date of birth. He was able to log on and see that this person was not me, but some little Russian ****.

All sorted now.

Edit: How has he got back in again? FFFSSS :mad::mad:

Now that i hope i have sorted out the repeated attacks on my account, i think i've been given a premium code by support.

I'm not logging in till i have wiped my machine clear of malware/virus/keyloggers, but its nice of them if they have given me Premium.

The main reason i believe was due to no firewall (somehow switched itself off without me realising), a weak password (qwert... anyone??) and some kind of keylogger, which was more than probable on a shared family PC. :/.

The weak password was originally setup when i first started using Origin just for burnout paradise, so i never changed it when i purchased a few more games. Silly me (never again). The machine gets used for all sorts of downloading from other family members and i'm positive that a keylogger was giving this guy it easy every time i would change the details to something very secure. Lesson learned.

So, let me get this straight. You most likely had a key logger, so some kid had access to all your passwords, including your email address password. And its EA's fault that he was able to keep getting into your account?

While their support could have dealt with the situation better, that's probably not been the weak link in the chain of issues here.
