How can they get away with this?

It's crazy isnt it, i thought i was hearing things just on the news so double checked on the website.

At the least, the police could claim they were acting in self-defence. But to then pin those deaths on the people that were acting aggressively...barmy.

Obviously if a crime has been committed the individuals responsible should be punished, but not innocent workers.

I agree but what if no one saw the killer or the group committed to a 'silence' between them?

I'm not defending the SA "common purpose" laws but we recently brought in the same thing here to combat gang violence. If you are part of a gang that stabs me then you go down and not just the stabber.

Whether the principle of that is right or wrong, we have it too. It's not some unique SA law.

Yes but they only go down for five minutes in our of our butlins camps, these guys are looking at serious bird in a crappy SA jail.

i think over there the law works along the lines of

whie = inocent
black = guilty
black with (lots of) money = inocent

I agree with this

Did you miss the fact that most, if not all, of the police that opened fire were also black? I find it baffling this case keeps being associated with Apartheid, or that people like you are bringing race into it at all.

As for the charges, that is the law of the land. Police may yet face charges. Call me devil's advocate, but how about dont charge armed police with weapons? What did they think would happen? Result would have been the same in many other parts of the world, including places we call civilised.

I doubt that this entire ordeal is as clear cut as people think it is.

Both sides of this have committed serious criminal acts upon one another and it will all come out in time. The miners were not blameless and the police acted with reprehensible brutality. But then they probably should not have been together to begin with - these tensions have been reaching boiling point for a while now.

The point your missing is that the people who didn't kill the miners are being charged with killing them.

And i also did not mention Apartheid.

wait why are people complaining? The police acted in self defence when charged my a mob of people carrying machetes with previous history of killing people?
Also surely by refusing to name the killers in there group they are obstructing a lawful investigation and adding a wanted criminal?

Or is all this, 2I hate the police so I'm cool" rubbish

I'm not missing that point - i referred to it when I said that's the law of the land, and that the police who did kill the miners may yet face charges.

I didn't say you mentioned Apartheid - just that I've seen many associations of this case in media and elsewhere with Apartheid, which puzzles me. You did, however, express agreement with somebody who thinks skin colour has anything to do with this, so you may as well have mentioned it.
