Yesterday i realized something wasn't right when i was checking the oil level, coolant etc.

Not my picture, but it looks the exact same as the condition of my car.

Its oil, but what looks to be leaking?

Any help much appreciated.

my mums vectra was chucking oil out of the rocker cover a few months back as the rubber gasket had perished. few quid on a rocker cover gasket and half an hour cleaning up the oil and fitting it and sweet as a nut.

gasket cost about 15 quid if i remember right

Cheers guys!
Its a z18xe engine.
Euro car parts have them for £8, will go to the garage my mate works at to confirm, then go buy and get him to do it.

This a long job? would i have to leave my car overnight or that?

Soundnt take more than 4 hours.
Most of that is just that they will leave it to seal (Depending on the type you have)

Maybe 2 hours labour?

I know its that way on my car anyway..

A rocker cover gasket shouldn't take more than an hour, on most cars you can do them in a few minutes. My car took a while longer as there's loads of stuff in the way that needs to be detached before you can remove the cover.

2 hours labour for a gasket!

I did mine the other weekend and it took an inexperienced person about 45 minutes, including cleaning the rocker cover!

Different car - but most RC gaskets are very easy to replace.

Depends how accurate you want to be about it.

You should loosen the bolts in sequence as specified by the workshop manual and tighten them again in sequence using a torque wrench. The torque figure is likely to be quite low due to the bolt size and alloy cam carriers. This will ensure the gasket is compressed correctly so that it seals.

Or you could just undo them, and then do the bolts back up and hope it works.

I don't see the benefit of loosening in sequence?

Tightening in sequence with a torque wrench... most definitely yes, but I see no benefit from sequential removal.

That^

I'm going of what i expect the garage will charge really, Its likely that even though it might not take to hours they will charge for the fact they will be resting it in a corner somewhere too

Can increase the torque required to undo the other bolts if you don't do it in order, which i guess can risk stripping the threads and other nastyness.

Have to admit, im not 100% sure, but since thats the way it is instructed to do it, i'll assume the people who designed the engine know more about it than I do!

Ah ok, didn't really think of that with the low torque involved, didn't think it would be an issue.

I suppose I tend to undo the outside first, then go for the middle - so that's likely helped as it's a distorted order, but not too far from it.
