JBL ES250 400 watt RMS 12" subwoofer, any good?

, the last i knew this was a forum so people can get help or ask questions and get answers...

also i was asking about the xls200 loudness due to being only 275w.

i know people here recommend bk subs and i understand they give better quality sound and yes i most likely be ordering one. but still i would like to know about both.

How big is your room? Unless you have something silly like a 10m square room the XLS200 should be fine.

There is an XLS200 on AVF now, it could be worth a try, even if you end up selling it on in a few months time, you shouldn't lose much on it, where if you buy new and decide you don't like it, you would lose much more.

sorry I'm being dumb :P It's been a long day at work. Metres?

Either way, as an example, my room is 4x4m square. I have the XLS200. It's far far too much for my room as far as pure loudness goes, so can't imagine it wouldn't be enough for yours. Loudness really is only a small part of it, it would be a much better sub than the JBL.

That ones a matter of opinion, also massively dependent on placement of the sub. At this price range though, honestly, the BK's blow anything else out the water, by a long long way.

Sealed subs can be a bit faster so better for music, that's why people will say the XLS400 can have the edge over the Monolith for music, but for films the Mono will win.

Ported simply increases the efficiency at a specific tuning frequency. It's not without issues though, poor designs end up with overblown bass or 'one note' boom. Ported when done right can be good - the Monolith is a cracking example. Sealed designs don't suffer with this and are generally easier to integrate with a room as well.

Generally, but it can depend on other variables too, quality of the driver & amplifier, box size and whether it has a passive radiator.

XLS400 Vs Mono people say it's true, haven't heard the mono myself.

The Monolith is more than capable of working extremely well with music. It just excels with film stuff since when working in a room because it is capable of hitting deeper and louder.

Between the two the only real consideration (for me) is if there's budget for an Antimode or similar. If there is, then the Monolith is better for any use since the Antimode will tame any odd room responses once you've found the optimal position. If there isn't budget, the 400 would probably be a better bet due to it having a flatter response in a room. :)

i found this http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/24348-jbl-es250pw-subwoofer-club-2.html. everybody there seems very pleased with it. so now i'm back to square one

if i get a xl200 i will need to wait (not sure till when) has i tryed to order it last night but the price is £327.90 including shipping

BK Electronics also have an Ebay shop, might be worth checking them out there as they sometimes have some ready to send out. If you have any concerns or questions ring up BK and ask to speak to Tom. He is very knowledgeable and he will go the extra mile to help you out! I cannot recommend them enough. I am just waiting for my Monolith+ to turn up now :D

EDIT: Just checked and they have quite a few available

Well you've been given an awful lot of help and answers, with the majority of posters telling you to invest in a BK sub.

There is ahardly information on this JBL sub and that's because people don't have it and certainly wouldn't waste their time with one. Hence me telling you to forget about it, asking constant questions about BK vs some JBL random sub is still going to yield the same answers: Get a BK!

I take it by 5x5 square your room is 5m square? The XLs200 should be enough for that, but I had the little BK Gemini in a 8m x 4m room and it wasn't enough for films, so I got a monolith which wins at life :D

With your budget though and XLS200 should do you fine. I won't be as bassy as you expect, as most people don't know and haven't heard a well setup sub. You get shed loads of bass, but at the right times, rather than just constantly in your face. So don't be disappointed as you might be to start with.

i've posted a link which as loads of people has one and they are very very pleased with it.

just because it's not a well known sub in uk doesn't mean it's shuddery crap.

also what my worry is my front speakers are 200w each total 400w so surely having a 275w sub won't be enough if i turn up the volume at high?
