*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Received my C80 (August build) unit and it has very minor screen lift on the left side. So minor, that if it hadn't been for all the discussion I would never have noticed it. It is a fraction of a mm but it is there! It doesn't creak at all however.

However as the unit has no flickering issues at low screen brightness (with heavy CPU etc), no screen ripple when pressing on the screen, no stuck/dead pixels, no backlight bleed, and no other faults at all, I think I will just let it be and keep it.

The problem I think is that they tried to hit a very agressive price point, and it is right on the edge of being able to manufacture effectively for such a low price level.

But the stock launcher doesn't have bookmarks in your app drawer...

What are you talking about? If you press the middle icon at the bottom of the home screen it'll take you into the apps area, hold and keep hold of any app to place a shortcut to it on the desktop.

Yes... but the question was how do you add a 'shortcut', not 'how do you add a shortcut to an app'. For example (as I eluded to) how do you add a shortcut to a bookmark, like you could in previous versions of Android.

He stated shortcut, not bookmark, oh well.

Yes, I know, I was the one that just clarified that for you.

You've given a way of making a shortcut to an app, but shortcuts apply to lots and lots of other things, such as bookmarks.

Wow. Hard work...

Would you believe it, the display unit in Tesco had screen raise/ripple issues too :(

It's irrelevant though, I've decided 16GB is simply not enough space. I assume the next Google tablet is a year away?

It's still not going to have an SD card slot though. Whether or not their next offering has a 32GB option remains to be seen. I doubt it though, as they are pushing cloud storage. They will make more money from cloud storage. Increasing the onboard storage or including an SD card slot on a device they get very little profit on makes no sense really, from their point of view.

well.. after having mine for around 6 weeks I've started to get a different screen issue which is driving me nuts.

It seems after around 20 mins of use the screen starts to become unresponsive and erratic to touch input. Having done a little searching it appears its not uncommon but I'm gutted as I use the thing a LOT and dont really want to be without it whilst its off for repair / replacement.
Damn it Google!!!

You sure it is'nt big lag? I'm has at times become very laggy at times to screen touch as in like seconds, i reset mine today and seeing how it goes.

So third time lucky? Yes, just picked up my third nexus 7! I the first had a blown speaker and the second failed to turn on most of the time and the accelerometer was always pulling to the right. The third seems spot on (well it doesn't have either of the previous two mentioned issues and no screen lift at the moment) so far...

Obviously I am less than impressed with the quality control at Asus but I'm willing to give it one more try seeing as the tablet is so good otherwise. Would be good to see a poll on how many times nexus owners have had to get it replaced?

giving mine to the mrs, as much as i love it!....... i just dont use it, having the galaxy nexus i found myself using that for 90% of what most would use a tablet for.
