*** The Official Samsung ATIV S Thread ***

but it will be same environment same apps style same method of handling /managing the phone so this also boring to you :D

eh? :p

With windows you can't change anywhere as much as you can on android, let alone you can't even change some things i.e. the launcher/homescreens

You want the windows layout on android, just install windows 7 launcher, windows 7 music app etc. etc. same goes for iOS :o :o :o and everything can have a completely different feel to it and even more once you root and flash custom ROMs such as CM 10, MUIU etc.

Thinking about that your right, there aint going to be many apps available for it. Maybe I might wait for a nice new 4.8" Jelly Bean phone :D

Only 100k+ as of a couple of months ago. ;)

It doesn't have some of the biggest iOS and Android Apps, but then again Android and iOS don't have some of the biggest WP apps either. Swings and roundabouts a lot of the time.

Also, not sure if it's been mentioned but Samsung have actually done the biggest faux pas available... That back isn't actually metal... It's plastic with a metal texture. Worse than an obvious plastic back. There was me thinking it was going to be an uglier but more powerful version of the Omnia 7, with metal and glass, nope, just another thin plastic phone.

Well, if it has the look and feel of metal, but without the issues with signal, and how easy it scratches then I would think its good. It looks premium, and it will have great build, I would say taht was win, win, but it depends how good it feels.

Wow! If that is true, then I am disappointed! Although it actually looks really good unlike the brush effect on the PB GS 3 and grey note 2 and certainly could be passed as proper metal going by the photos and videos, in terms of looks. As long as it feels good and the build quality is good (which I suspect it will be given it is a Smsung phone) then it is perfectly fine, plus it will be more durable then as well.

Not sure how you can think it is worse than obvious plastic as it is one of the best I have seen on a phone, much better than the standard glossy plastic, which just looks cheap.

Plus this blows the omnia 7 out of the water and then proceeds to nuke it from orbit regarding hardware :p MUCH better than the omnia 7. It only has the best hardware specs (overall) of any smart phone to date....

http://wmpoweruser.com/another-hands-on-video-of-the-samsung-ativ-s/

NoMobile.ru also had a hands-on with the Samsung Ativ S, which appears to be secretly present at IFA 2012.

As with the last video, the brief review is in Russian, so we remain unenlightened as to the reviewer’s hands-on opinion.

At least the video does demonstrate that, while the battery cover is plastic, it is far from fragile.

He does note in his text review that Samsung is not ready yet to reveal the price of the handset, and that a full review of the handset will have to await Microsoft’s unveiling of Windows Phone 8.

Sounds like it's exactly the same plastic as the S3, just painted a different colour...

That's why I said more powerful version of the Omnia 7...Yet it also still runs smoother than any Android phone ever has. ;) The Omnia 7 is significantly more premium than any other Samsung handset in the last couple of years and is the perfect shape, a sharp rectangle with a single coloured front. Not like the odd shapes HTC were known to release after the Touch HD with multiple colours.

Well at least it looks a lot better than the GS 3, be thankful for that! :p Plus I don't think the GS 3 back cover is as flexible as that, the GS 2 back cover is very flexible though.

ah, the way you wrote this, sounded like you didn't even think it was worthwhile regarding hardware:

There was me thinking it was going to be an uglier but more powerful version of the Omnia 7, with metal and glass, nope, just another thin plastic phone.

EDIT:

also wait till jelly bean gets on more android phones and then compare the smoothness :p

I must say that I am a bit surprised that there have been no posts in this particular thread for over 5 months now!

I did think about getting one of these phones myself, but went for an HTC 8X in the end, which I am getting on with very well, and am finding the OS very intuitive!

Perhaps the majority of OcUK followers are not massive Windows Phone fans though!

Just got one, traded my old nexus for a brand new ativ s. Loving it so far, i have a major gripe though, when connecting my BT headset sounds from the phone speakers such as lock/unlock sound and notifications as well as keyboard clicks all are not heard at all, it sends all sounds to the BT headset. Is there a way to make ONLy calls go to the BT headset?
