What is it with certain words?

Why are there certain words people get completely wrong and replace it with a word that sounds nothing like it.

My sig is the perfect example. I mean, who would actually say the word "brought" in everyday life.

Another one is "it's been sitting in a draw." Come on man! A drawer!! Not an equal score at the end of a game.

While I'm not an English professor, far from it. I don't make these ridiculous mistakes.

Any other ones you see on the forums a lot? Those two are the main culprits that I've seen.

If you do any of the above, own up and explain yourself?

I think it's strange that people use "then" instead of "than"

With bought and brought, there is a small crossover there. You could be at work and say "I bought this sandwich from the shop but I brought this sandwich from home" So I can see how people might get that wrong.

Pure laziness is what it is. You'll always (that's another one you'll often see written as ALLways) see they're their and there used incorrectly.

Are you telling me you actually say Draw-er for drawer? If so you are the first person I have ever known to do that.

The only thing more annoying than someone being lazy with spelling is someone being too obsessed with getting everything right. Best to go with the flow but at the same time apply a little effort.

Not too bothered usually, but it does irritate me on occasion. What really bugged me for some reason on driving game forums is brake/break...

Ott grammar nazis are more annoying though.

I've the opposite experience, I've never heard anyone call a drawer a draw. It's not like it's a silent er at the end of the word. :confused:

Saying draw instead of drawer sounds real odd to me.
