AMD Bulldozer vs Intel Core: There's only one way to find out... fight!

Hi Crimsonzerox,

A suitable motherboard for the FX 6100 would be any motherboard which has an AM3+ chip - it all depends on how much you want to pay, really. Definitely go for something from the 900 chipset range here, and the more money you pump in the more features (extra PCI-E slots for SLI/Crossfire, extra SATA3 or USB 3 ports, etc etc) you will get.

Definitely consider going Intel though. You will thank yourself for it later. The cheapest AMD 970 chipset board on OCUK is ~£65, for that and the £100 the FX 6100 cost you can get:

Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 - £75

Intel Core i3-2120 - £90

Which will be better performance all round. The 6100 might have more cores and a higher clock, but that does not mean the performance will be better. The above will also get you a much better potential upgrade path, as the performance on the next generation of the Bulldozer chips (Piledriver) does not look to be particularly brilliant.

Yeah the reviews on here are great, love this example:

"Reviewed by: mark (spalding)

very fast, eats through installations. only negative i have is it runs slighty hotter than my old hex core, now paired with a watercooling kit that problem has been solved..........treat yourself you wont regret it"

It EATS THROUGH INSTALLATIONS guys! Windows install slow? FX 8120! Virus.exe never completes install? FX 8120! Never mind the dog slow hard drive you still use from 2002 or getting an SSD, buy an FX8120 it will chew through all installations of anything
lol didn't know there are people that use their PC to do installation and nothing else. People get addiction on installation like addiction on drug? :p

I use an fx-8150, bought it when they came out, spent £240 on it.. do I regret it? Yes, I got caught up in the hype about bulldozer and really wanted to try an 8 core cpu. Normal gaming on one screen at 1900x1080 with my old 6870 was fine... nothing spectacular but since I got 2 7970's in crossfire and went eyefinity triple monitor the fx is seriously bottlenecking them. I live in very sceptical hope of the piledriver being better but it's going to need to be a damn site better to come near the Intel cpu's. I will wait and see but will almost certainly go with a x79 and 3820 in the next couple of months. So Martini is right..people do buy bd's but if they try and run a decent gaming rig with them then they regret their choice !

Thank you so much for all the info i guess i know what i will get. I saw a lot of people saying i5 2500k is very good for price and performance. should i get that? I want a good motherboard so that i can have more room for further upgrades. Is that motherboard mentioned with at least 2 or 3 pci slots?

I want to learn how to overclock. I've read some basic rrquirements for overclocking. Loke good cooling and over lockable motherboard rams CPU and a good pcu? I don't want my room to get very heaty :s

Sorry for throwing out all the questions. I want to learn more before i get it. >.<

its kind of sad when grown men/women argue about a cpu they dont even own

Rubbish - how do you know about the research I do? Or what CPU's I own other than whats in my tagline? I didn't realise you lived and worked with me. What a narrowminded statement.

At a guess I think I know more about Bulldozer than 90% of the people that actually own them - and what I don't know takes about 5 mins to find out if you have half a brain and know where to look for the answers.

(FX8)As it is about £110 after cash back, I wouldn't complain as the performance would still be good :)

it is still good i find the processor is perfectly fine i only have a single 6950 GPU and it is great playing all games as previously stated yes (BF3 Dead Island Darksiders 1-2 Crysis 1-2 and Warhead MOH abd all of Call of Duty) all at 1080p res

Close this thread tbh, Martini1991 will absolutely dominate this thread haha.

We all know the stakes about the BD chip, no one needs to add more and no one needs to keep stating the obvious facts and details that have been circulating this forum and many others on the WWW.

It gets boring reading the same thing posted by the same people over and over again.

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing lol.

Pointless thread is.... well you fill in the gaps.

Mind you, it helps get the OP on his way to the gold star he feels he deserves I'm sure, now he realises being a long time lurker doesn't get it for him...

you know the worse thing about all of this is you guys need to get a life and not sit on a forum all day waiting for new posts about amd so you can stick your nose in to say its crap, which makes the amd owner feel like a retard

i posted a thread about what board for my fx 8120,just because i said i had an i5 [email protected] the whole thread got turned into why do i want amd when i got an i5 760.

so when someone wants advice on amd products please keep your intel noses out and let people who actually own amd products give them advice

and just to stir it up my fx 8120 which i OWN is a lot faster than my old i5 760 in EVRYTHING i do on my pc,as i can actually compare performance with them both having used both. my fx8120 overclocked to 4.5ghz on air. the only 2 benchmarks i ever use are cinebench and passmark performance test,in passmark it beats an i7 2700k easy(lies?)in cinebench it beats an i7 960 (lies?)

and what difference are you going to see in games 5-10 fps more with i5-17
when if you have a decent gpu fps is not a problem,i have a gtx 460 oc to 900mhz with my fx 8120 8gig samsung green oc to 2400mhz 11-11-11-28 1t and nothing could possibly run bf3 on max settings more smooth

TRY 1 YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED :)

The thread title made me want to see harry hill guffawing in the background whilst a giant i7 and a giant bulldozer fight in fatsuits in the foreground.
