**OcUK WILL NOW BUILD A GAMING LAPTOP (HD 7970M) TO YOUR SPECIFICATION: LAPTOP CONFIGURATOR!!**

There are 3 major advantages to the 680M:

1) Lower base temperatures
2) Optimus is vastly more mature than enduro
3) 680M can be bios unlocked to clock like a beast (29% extra on stock volts alone and it still runs cooler than the 7970M....)

Gibbo- try a 15.6" version and allow a build based on a gtx 680m and you'll flog barrow loads of them

Perhaps offer more in the way of storage devices and clarify whether a 2nd drive would negate the use of an optical drive?

Hi there

We are bringing more different chassis and VGA options in. :)

2nd HDD has no effect on install an ODD in this chassis.

My one here has a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD along with ODD installed, no issues. :)

Personally I'd happily skip the optical and take a laptop optical in a self powered USB case for the few occasions you'll use it (or just switch it with a bulk media drive in the ODD caddy thing as needed.)

The 17.3" machine has 5 SATA connections:

2x 2.5" bays (Gen3)
1x optical bay (Gen2)
1x eSATA (Gen2)
1x mSATA (Gen2)

The 15.6" machine has 4 SATA connections

1x 2.5" bay (Gen3)
1x optical (Gen3)
1x eSATA (Gen2)
1x mSATA (Gen2)

:)

670 is still slower than a 7970 with utilisation issues lol.

The issue is that games with utilisation issues can never get above a certain fps no matter how low the settings. e.g. you can never get about 40fps in SC2 even at minimum settings.

A good idea, but that leaves a big hole in the side of the machine??

No, but you can buy one and put the face plate on from the odd.

Also gibbo, still shocked you don't stock the crucial m4 mSATA drives.

:) thanks for the response. Ive been weighing up laptop v self build desktop for a while and just cant pull the trigger on either for some reason. Your drive set up would be similar to what id be looking for. Would definately prefer a cooler card than the AMD offering for a laptop

I purchased one of these the other day and it arrived this morning.

I am actually really pleased with it, I was a little worried at first after a few reviews that I had read to if it is any good or not and it works perfect. I am extremely happy with it, will let you know how it runs once I have had time to actually use a game on it..
