Shes a scum bag like the rest of them.
Or we have a minister for equality that, whilst in opposition, voted against government bills.
That is not the point of the opposition.
Going by the general consensus on the forum and in regards to the defining of Racial Hatred, Homophobia et al as "Freedom of Speech" is exactly what the people want....
And as strange and disconcerting as it may be I actually agree with Kwerk (sort of), it is more worrying that we even need an Equality Minister in modern society in the first place rather than the choice of who it is.
The Conservative Party (Ooooh lala) said:Women and Equality
The Government believes that there are many barriers to social mobility and equal opportunities in Britain today, with too many children held back because of their social background, and too many people of all ages held back because of their gender, race, religion or sexuality. We need concerted government action to tear down these barriers and help to build a fairer society.
We are promoting equal pay and will take a range of measures to end discrimination in the workplace.
We are consulting with business on how best to extend the right to request flexible working to all employees.
We will undertake a fair pay review in the public sector.
We have developed a new voluntary framework for gender equality reporting, to help encourage and support organisations to improve their gender equality – we do not support mandatory pay reporting.
We have scrapped the bureaucratic socio-economic duty on public bodies which was legislated for by the previous Government.
We will promote improved community relations and opportunities for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, including by providing internships for underrepresented minorities in every Whitehall department and funding a targeted national enterprise mentoring scheme for BAME people who want to start a business.
We are taking action to address violence against women.
We will use our relationships with other countries to push for unequivocal support for gay rights and for UK civil partnerships to be recognised internationally.
We are tackling homophobia in sport and homophobic bullying in schools.
We have introduced legislation that will allow the removal of criminal convictions for consensual gay sex from times when such acts were illegal.
We are allowing those religious premises that wish to do so to register civil partnerships and we will consult next year on how to introduce same-sex civil marriage.

I thought you said you studied politics?
Or do you just do the ideal fantasy of politics in class rather than the reality?
The opposition shouldn't just vote against the government just 'because', that's simply childish. They're there to protect the interests of the people that voted for them, not to fight with those they lost to out of spite.
And no, i never said that i've academically studied politics.
Hell Yeah - Especially stopping them adopting & having surrogate kids - Eeeww.
It's just not right.

Obvious troll.

As someone else in this thread has already proved, it is actually true. You can check Maria Miller's voting record for yourself (here).
Some of her preferences are classic old skool Tory:
Voted a mixture of for and against a wholly elected House of Lords.
Voted very strongly for the Iraq war.
Voted a mixture of for and against an investigation into the Iraq war.
Voted a mixture of for and against a smoking ban.
Voted a mixture of for and against a transparent Parliament.
Voted a mixture of for and against automatic enrolment in occupational pensions.
Voted a mixture of for and against a stricter asylum system.
Voted a mixture of for and against Labour's anti-terrorism laws.
lol I looked up a Northern Ireland MP
He does rather make his mind up, doesn't he?
What exactly is an Equality Minister?
BAN BAN BAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you insist.

But seriously, I can't see this government lasting much longer.
Some of the choices, the tanking economy - the also got rid of the only semi-respectable minister (Clark) imho.
"Equality, equality, how to reform equality..."
*snaps fingers*
"Thats it! We'll pick a woman!"
"Very good Sir, who should we pick?"
"Just pick anyone, the position doesn't matter anyway"
Thats how I imagine the decision went anyway.
More worrying is the pro-homoeopathy, anti-abortion, anti-stem cell research health secretary.
Worse. Reshuffle. Ever.
Unfortunately the opposition is Labour, and it's all the morons can do.
\o/
This, I can't wait to get back to a government who doesn't constantly **** me in the ass with their selfish and to be honest, poor running of this country.
Although I disagree with some of the stuff she voted for, I agree, to an extent with a fair amount. I don't think, however, judging based on her decisions she would make a great equality minister.

i didnt realise he was anti stem cell?!?! Oh FFS, we are the world leader in that and IMO its the future of treatment for many of the horrible diseases.
is he by any chance a religious nut job too? like Bush Jnr. fair enough you have faith, but dont force others to endure it. Stem Cell tech is a proven life-saver for some people and a possible cure for so many problems.
